WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao has announced that 10 Asian Pacific American college students have been selected to be summer interns at the U.S. Department of Labor. The internship program established by Secretary Chao offers compensation and is highly competitive, accepting only 40 interns from several hundred applications.
"I started this summer intern program at the Department to provide young Asian Pacific Americans an unique opportunity to learn about their federal government. My purpose is to help mentor and cultivate a new generation of Asian American leaders by giving them a chance to serve their country. I'm delighted to welcome them to the DOL team!" Chao said.

[*:6683874261]Megha Jonnalagadda of Kendall Park, New Jersey. Megha is a senior at the University of Pennsylvania where she is majoring in Political Science and English

Secretary Chao is the first American woman of Asian descent to serve in any President's Cabinet. In addition, the U.S. Department of Labor has the highest number of Asian Pacific American appointees including 3 positions that are Presidential appointments requiring U.S. Senate confirmations (PAS).
