i love yellowworld

it's true. at first i thought, "what the heck is this yellowworld?" there's nothing in it except for long articles and forums. i guess that would be an initial reaction of someone who is not really fond of reading. and plus, it didn't have free spots for homepages... lolz. i was like.. "darn, i can't show off my html skillz. hehe jk. but then when i tried to check it out for the second time, i thought it wasn't bad at all. i enjoy the idea of people having to share their thoughts and opinions to others. it's not like other asian sites that are all about showing pretty faces or rides and and even naked ladies! i think YW is deeper than that... it informs... it educates... and it even enhances my thinking, and i'm just so glad i found a place that could help me look deeper into myself and explore what's in my mind. i just want to give props to all those who are behind YW and also those who are members of it. :D

yellowworld.org people seem to be generally more mature to me. i like it alot. but part of the reason could be because it still has a very small number of active users compared to many other asian sites. makes us more respectful of each other.

I'm going off on a bit of a tangent here, but one of the big themes I had in mind when starting yellowworld was the idea of a community where we could see the applied benefits of respect and civility.

I remember driving up the 110N freeway on March 5, listening to Steve Harvey on the radio talk about Cinco de Mayo, urging his predominately black audience to learn a little bit about the holiday. He confessed that he himself didn't know a whole lot about it, but was resolved to -- at the very minimum -- respect what it meant to Latinos.

I'm butchering his speech, but I gotta tell ya, I was moved.

it would be [b:2d37e0ba53]very[/b:2d37e0ba53] important to keep the trolls outside the gates if you want to achieve this. everybody talks about free speech nowadays but hardly anybody talks about responsible speech.

So far, we've been relatively troll-free (*knocks on wood*). The trolls we have had, I usually subjugate by editing their posts. Moderators are also free to do this:) While this is far from policy, it has been effective thus far in annoying the hell out of them. Beyond that, I need to brush up I guess on additional web security measures and that sorta thing, but the built-in stuff that came with the forum isn't bad.

The conversion process has been difficult, to say the least. Up until this morning at about 5am, I really didn't think we'd be able to get any of the posts over, and I was kinda resolving myself to that reality. But isn't having them all with some minor errors better than starting completely fresh...?
