My dad keeps reminding me to get the fluids in my car checked/changed. What are the different fluids in my car (my 95 corolla) besides motor oil? Please explain in layman's term as much as possible. Besides motor oil, can the other fluids be replaced by ourselves or must it be with an auto technician? I guess I better go to the body shop, but do you change the other fluids yourself in your car? *confused*

the only fluid i change myself is the oil, but even that can be a hassle if you don't have ramps and teh right tools

other fluids you should watch out for..
transmission fluid (prolly every 30K or so)
coolant (every year or every other year)
timing belt. (not a fluid, but important) varies depending on car
spark plugs - ditto

most important: Windshield wiper fluid! haha.. j/p

go to a dealer website, and look at what they do for each 30k, 60, an d90k maintenaince, and that is a good place to find out what you need to get done..

Adding on...

-Brake fluid level and condition (a must if you race on open track dates and/or autocrosses)
-Power steering fluid level and condition (if you have it)
-Rear differential fluid level and condition (if you have it)

corolla = FWD ... so no rear diff

Corolla motor is the 4AFE or the damn.. i forgot the other miodel name ... mebbe it's the 7afe... all A series Toyota motors are non-interference (most Toyota motors are) which means even if your timing belt snaps.. nothing will happen. your car just won't start... this is unlike interference type motors such as Hondas and Mitsu's which when the timing belt snaps, the valves crash into the pistons and you fuck up everything. The timing belt is IMPORTANT. however for the A series motor, you don't have to worry about it if your timing belt snaps.

corolla does have the power steering fluid.

Tranny oil i wouldn't change for 60,000 miles.

Keep an eye on your brake fluid. if the brake feels spongy or less responsive, bleed the brakes. i recommend jumping up to Dot3/4 or just 4 if possible. Those two are compatible. Dot5 is better however that is not compatible with 3 or 4. you'd have to flush your brake system completely and refill with Dot 5.

Cap and rotor - this one is tricky.. the cap is proprietary. the wires go directly inside, it's not like you can just buy a cap and replace it. the sparkplug wires are attached. i would go to toyota and buy this complete part at 100,000 miles.

the other guys covered everything else. if i'm not making sense just pm me. i'll elaborate.

Sorry if this is late but in your 95 corrolla wether it has the 1.6 or 1.8 but its usually the 1.8 if you have the automatic model. The oil requirment is 4.1 quarts of engine oil upon replacment of yur oil and oil filter.5W-30 if a good and recomended weight of oil for this vehicle and i always use Castrol oil.Its a very good brand. An oil and filter at autozone will run yu about 12 bucks or less , no more. The transmission fluid is also another thing that needs to be checked and changed at 100,000 or 80,000 miles. :frown:
