so what's your most painful or vivid sports memory?

i have three that stick out in my mind although i was only mildly hurt from all of them and realize that they're pretty tame on the scale of things that have happened. but twisted ankles just don't make for a good story. (well, at least mine don't)

the first one was when i was in 5th or 6th grade playing soccer. me (prolly the smallest kid on the field) and a friend from school (black kid who was the biggest guy in our grade) were chasing down a ball from opposite sides. he got there first and kicked it as hard as he could. straight into my forehead. it basically clotheslined me as my feet flew out from under me and i landed on my back, knocking the wind out of me. i sat there for a minute practically unable to breath and not being able to focus real well.

then in hs, we were playing tackle football and i (again one of the smallest guys on the field at about 125-130) was the last guy between the runner (massive blubbery kid about 300 lbs) and the goal. i threw myself at him and boink, i bounced right off. i figured he'd go on and score but i guess i tripped him and he fell right on top of me. my vision went white for a second and i thought my chest had caved in. again had problems breathing and thought i might have cracked a rib, but turned out fine.

last was also in hs where we were doing some rope drills in ROTC. i got the webbing between my thumb and forefinger caught between the d-ring and the rope and the skin there just totally disappeared. to this day i can't stretch the fingers on that hand as much as i can the other.

Varsity soccer - catfight with Pipsy's school in the girl's locker room *MEOW!* - cleats, and bras and nails - oh my! :P

Varsity basketball - Swiss section chick was trying to block my rebound . . . I think she was a little over eager, and ended up on top of me. . . (*think - big girl*)

ow.

Both knees dislocated during a basketball game when some big heavy fugker fell on them. That was almost 12 years ago. They still hurt to this very day. :(

I can't say anything dramatic happened. Way back my shoulder started hurting when I played baseball, but I ignored it. Few years later it really started hurting when I did the inclune bench. I just stopped lifting for a few months and its good as it ever was.

Buddy of mine got his nose broken and tore his ACL in separate incidents playing basketball.

11th grade; i managed the boy's varsity baseball team, and my jaw was mistaken for a mitt.

Not really a sports team injury, but I got hit and run by a car on my bike and flew off and skinned my arms and twisted my ankle.

Ack, that sucks. Good thing it wasn't too serious.

I got hit by a car. Smashed right into the windshield pillar, smashed my pinky in half, and flew right over the car. I ended up with a compound, open fracture of my right pinky with nerve damage to it, deep bruising to both sides of my hip, and deep bruising to my right ankle. I was extremely lucky that day. First off for surviving a 30mph impact and second keeping all of my body parts. Though my pinky was severely damage and I can barely move it now. ^_^

hmm probably when i sprained my knee and ankle at the same time. was cutting the corner on my rollerblades and didn't see some oil on the sidewalk. my left skate slipped, got stuck on the grass and then it was the most horrible pain ever.

One time I was blading down this hill and as I was taking a curve I hit a patch of sand.

Skidded about 40 feet on my elbow and side of my knee. I still have a pretty bad scar on my right elbow almost 8 years later.

I didn't seem to hurt too much at the time either.

Injuries to me:

Last week I banged my knee on someone else's knee while playing basketball. Couldnt walk for a week

H.S. Volleyball: Jump up to block and landed on spiker's foot. Twisted and broke ankle. Very shitty. Out for 6 weeks

Injuries I have seen that stick out.

Pro-Wrestling: Sid Viscious jumps off the top turnbuckle and his left leg buckles under his weight. Bending in an unbendable manner.

Football: LT hits Joe Theismann, breaking his leg and ending his career.

Geez...

I was lucky that the bike took the direct impact from the car and I just flew off and was pretty much fine.

I can't say the same for the bike.

bike injuries. i was riding my bike, minding my own business when i thought i heard someone calling my name. i kept riding but turned around to see if there was anyone there, and while i was turned around i crashed into a stationary car. i bruised up my arm. no biggie. later that day, i was riding my bike again and i was curious what would happen if i stuck my foot into my front bike wheel. i flipped over my bike, scraped up my knees and got tendinitis in my arm.

I think sprains are worse than bruises, cuts, bleeds, scrapes, etc. (not including deep wounds or gashes) because they hinder flexibility and range of motion and limit your bodily movement besides the simple reason of pain. I pulled my hamstring once and as a result I couldn't do half the things I enjoyed doing physically, whereas if I just bruised myself or scraped myself it wouldn't really make a difference. If it bleeds usually in most cases you can use a bandaid.

the only one i remember happened last month where i sprained my ankle landing on my friend's foot playing basketball. 2 days later i played basketball again and sprained it again. I walked that one off tho and continued to play until i sprained that same foot again, again landing on a guy's foot. And during that same game, someone slapped my wang. i was out for a week or so with a sprained ankle the size of a tangerine.

another one was when i was bit by a dog while rollerblading through a park.

I got hit by a car.
Hey, you too? Throughout elementary school and junior high, I got hit about three or four times -- all at the same intersection, the same exact spot. Cars would come speeding down the street and not bother to slow down while turning right. The first was the worst -- I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, riding my bike, and a car knocked me on my ass as it was turning right. Flew off the bike about five feet onto the pavement, but luckily, I wasn't injured at all.

Probably my most notable sports injury was in high school, playing football. There was a big pile up and somehow a guy on the other team managed to kick me in the shin, really hard. I'd never been kicked in the shins before, so at the moment I swore I'd broken my leg...and the team trainer agreed with me! They ended up calling the ambulance and I was carted off the field, and the doctor was telling me I'd be out for the rest of the season at the minimum.
