are you biased against your other half?

i was talking with a friend of mine and she was saying how she hates her hispanic side. she's korean and columbian (very pretty, but back to the point), for the record. i asked her why and she couldn't give me anything concrete. but how about you guys/girls, any biases? i remember btr calling his dad a dumb honky i think (i could be wrong, feel free to flame me bro), but do you have a bias?

this is for my own curiosity since i'll have little hapalettes running around within the next 8 years.

I love white people. Especially my dad. The only time I think he's a dumb honky is when he's trying to do some "asian culture" related BS my mother was telling him about.

My sister is convinced my bias against Asian Americans is due to having an Asian American mother.

Nah I love both sides of me. Because both sides drink equally like fishies (Korean & Irish). I couldn't have asked for a better combo, or a better tolerance level. Yet, I'm biased towards them both because it costs so damn much to get drunk! I'm on a beer budget here. Oh wait, I am truly biased towards the whiteboy me in, because I think I seriously do have an Asian fetish and I blame it on the whiteside haha.

Being biased against one of your halves is self loathing.

WE all (okay most of us) lean one way or the other.

We also find things that we like and dislike about either half, sometimes the dislike on one side outweighs the dislike on the other.

Anyone who says they hate one of their halves hates himself, or one of his parents.

These are the types of people that don't need to be having kids, because they will in turn try to teach their kids to hate their self loating parents.

My 2nd great-grandfather was from China. And it's not difficult really to trace your ancestors. Just takes time. On my Filipino side I've traced it to many of my 5th great-grandparents. My Hawaiian side goes back for centuries due to strict genealogy enforcements in our culture.

Start w/ what you know. Parents, grandparents, their birthdates and birthplaces. What you do is work backwards, going back further.

Birth recs. provide names of parents and sometimes their ages at the time of the child's birth. That way you can estimate when that child's parents were born. It usually states place/origin of parent if not race.

Marriage recs. provide ages and origin of the bridge & groom and names of their parents.

Death recs. provide the age if not birthdate of the deceased and usually origin. Normally in recs. (not church recs.) you have the name and address of the informant who provided the info. on the deceased.

Now w/ all that in mind, you can slowly gather more info. The best place to go to is your nearest Family History Center, a library provided by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. If you're mormon...you got it made.

Meanwhile the rest of us use census recs. to see what other siblings existed for grandparents or great-grandparents, etc. It verifies ages of each person. Church recs., more so catholic recs. kept good records and provided details on people. In my case, the Philippines kept good recs. They sometimes would provide all 4 grandparents' names. That's how I was able to search further back.

it wasn't really "tracing" for my family. my grandmother's mother was half english. you can see from her pictures that she's obviously mixed. and my grandmother tells us the story about her english grandmother. it's just family oral history being passed down the generations.
