I've been offered an opportunity to move to the Caribbean with my job. I know there are Asian folk there but anyone from here know of any Asians living there?

I know there's some in Central America, but I'm not sure if there are many in the Caribean. Which part of the caribean are you going to?

Depends on where you're going. I know that there are a nice population on the island of Dominica. Thinking about buying or building a nice little retirement home there myself. B)

There are Asians in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana (okay, not technically in the Caribbean), and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
There are small Asian populations in other areas, but perhaps on these three most visibly (in the last, least visibly than the other two).
A Jamaican friend of mine has Chinese relatives back there. She said there's a decently-sized population.

Most are Hakka. And even a lot of the young kids can actually speak Hakka, unlike the Hakka kids in HK who only speak Cantonese, the Hakka kids in Taiwan who only speak Mandarin and whose parents only speak Hokkien, etc. <_<

F.Y.I., one of the pioneering producers of reggae records in the 1960s and '70s was a Chinese Jamaican man named Leslie Kong.
A blazian Jamaican (apparently U.S.-raised) named Venice Kong was a Playboy Playmate in the 1980s. She must be a relative.
So, yeah, there are Asians in the Caribbean, and some have even distinguished themselves...

There's a Chinese girl at my school from T&T. I have also heard of Chinese in Cuba and Jamaica.
Have you decided to take the job?

I just recently came back from the Bahamas, and the few Asians that I saw were tourists like me. Not that that should deter you from moving, but as you know, you would be even more of a minority there than in the states. There is also some hidden racism that is mostly directed to whites (since they were colonized by the English only 30 years ago), but once in a while anyone that isn't black will get some sort of rude look or be ignored..... nothing more than that though, one thing they're not is blatant.

wtf...are you talking about the same caribbean as i am?? the one where pigmentocratic mentality is rife??
spesh it totally depends on which island you are moving to...but there are many sizeable south asian communties on each lsland, Jamaica, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago certainly have large Chinese communities, particularly in JA Chinese population is ver large
I heard a program on NPR a while ago about Chinese store owners in the Carribean and Central America. Situation is quite similar to minority store owners here in the States curiously.
I know there are Chinese communities in Cuba and Jamaica.

There's a fairly large Hmong population in French Guiyana.
