With the many selections of portable mp3 players, I can't decide which I should go for and what is good. There are so many new brands that I haven't heard of. For those that are up to date with mp3 players, could you recommend one or two, maybe 3? I am not looking for those mp3 players with the hard drive like Ipod. I am looking for something small and durable. I am willing to spend about $200 to $250 max.

Thanks in advance!

my suggestion, is forget about getting those crappy mp3 players, and get one of them portable hard drives, like iPod.

if you want to get some portable HD's, if you have relatives in asia, you can get it cheap through them, ie: you send them some cash, and they buy it for you type thing.

iPod is worth the money in the end, since you can have several dozen gigabytes of music on those things.
and the USB interface makes xfering fast and easy.

Non-HD players leave you with either flash memory players or mp3 cd players. Flash memory players usually come with 128mb, which isn't a lot of storage, especially if you have to transfer them from your computer on a slow link. If you listen to 2-3 albums (or about 32 songs) repeatedly, then maybe it's right for you. In that case, check out the Rio S50, which is expandable with SD cards and uses USB to transfer data.

What features are important to you? Can you rank them? Like storage capacity, ease of use, portability or hands free (like for exercise), sound quality. etc.

I don't know the other products, but I LOVE my iPod. Its my first and only MP3 player. But I do know people who have junked their other MP3 players in favor of the iPod, so there must be something special about it. I just know it is easy to use, has quick firewire uploads, looks great, and best of all, sounds fantastic.

I think I'll just stick with my CD Player for now. No need for any fancy mp3 players...
