"hey mom, what you cooking nigga?"
"your favorite my nigga!"
hahhah that's really funny! and actually i think it's a japanese sitcom [i:0990d9b3a3]making fun of[/i:0990d9b3a3] american rap culture rather than misunderstanding it.

I dunno if anyone noticed but the cast's pronunciation of the japanese language is really really really horrible. And people told me the credits at the end are just random characters. perhaps more anti japanese propaganda like the fake pic of canned human fetuses sold at japanese supermarkets.

ok, i found a comment about this video clip:

I didn't really like Tokyo Breakfast the first time I saw it. Stopped watchin' after the chicken and waffles the second time.
I would NOT want African Americans or anyone else lampooning the oddities of Korean "culture" like that. Sarah Silverman's "chink" joke pales in comparison.

I'm not sure what's the worst aspect of this.. there are so many things wrong on so many levels. Not to mention it's not even funny.
And a fat Tokyo boi? I think not. Doesn't even pluck his eyebrows. :)

yeah saw that a while ago. here's a link to the message board of the site that supposedly first served it up:

i can't confirm its validity, but read the third post in the discussion:

the post cuts off there. the "hypnotic story" that the poster is referring to is the story about how the company (Hypnotic) first got the video.

We did and we all were stymied by how incredibly unfunny and stupid it was. I don't have a problem with spoofing black-wannabe Japanese but it's obvious that it was trying to be Japanese when it wasn't.

Well, it was just a pilot for a show. And personally, I thought it was just showing how sometimes Japanese people (especially in Japan) can use English words and not really know what they mean, or how offensive it is. You don't know how many times I've heard Japanese people say FUCK and then I ask them what it means and they have no idea, they just think it's "cool". Just a thought.

Here is the how you learn to sympathize with other racial groups, if a grou of blacks got together made a movie and it was "Hello 'Chink'", and the one guy was in suspenders and had a calculator. Would it still be funny. With really bad Chinese accents.

Well, I'm not really sure what the intentions were on the making of this "tv show." But, I don't know any Chinese people that call each other chinks (well actually, I know a couple, but just being stupid) however, nearly every black person I know calls each other "nigga." Most Japanese don't have a clue how derogatory it really is. I know this personally because I had to explain to the two Japanese exchange girls this year on the reasons not to say "nigga" because when they first came here I heard them say it a few times. Soooooo my point is, they don't know what they're saying when it comes to English. Just look at some of the more popular shirt designs that the youth are wearing over there.

err... read my first post in this thread. the producer's name is jeff cornish. that doesn't sound asian (maybe he's half?). the girl's japanese is bad, the grandfather's english is perfect. they were speaking mandarin on TV. sure there are japanese actors, but does this really sound like a real japanese production to you? are there even sitcoms in japan?

Hmm, maybe we need a couple of Black producers in Japanese media? (I know of a couple of actors who work in the country, and have shown up on a couple of commericials)...
i'm almost certain that Hikky uses at least some american producers on her projects. and since her music is R&B, there might be some black people working with her. (not to be stereotypical about R&B being "black" music. but my guess is more black people would have more experience with producing R&B)
but er... like i said before in 2 previous posts, it's doubtful that the "pilot" was even produced in japan or even conceived by japanese people.

Regarding KuroBishounen's post, I'd hafta say that MOST of Asia and the people within are behind the times in viewing African-Americans or Americans period. Most of what they have to go by is from the media, television, magazines, and movies (and you know what an accurate and true image the media paints, it's so dead on it's scary you know), and the vast majority have never even actually seen a black person or white person in real life, let alone interact and get to know them. It's the equivalent of ignorant people who live in small farming towns here in the US (no offense to anyone to whom this actually applies). In such a homogenous societal setting, they don't have a chance to become exposed to diversity or different ideas, so they live their whole life sticking to what they grew up believing or seeing on TV or reading.

Honestly, when the subject comes up about "ignorant" people who have never had contact with other races... on that level, I don't even think it constitutes as ignorance. I'd say ignorance is when you HAVE had contact with other races, but you still hold all these... you know, ignorant thoughts. If you HAVN'T had contact with the outside world, really, you don't know what to expect. I mean, that's all they KNOW... that's not ignorance, that's misinformed.

Hmmm....well I dunno
I always thought that if someone is ignorant, it means they are 'uninformed' and therefore acting foolishly or incorrectly because 'they don't know better'. But I could be wrong.

-misinformed and ignorance are not alike? so the kkk youth down south are 'misinformed' about other races? or are they ignorant? these two words are almost interchangeable in my book...

I meant it on a non-violent, non-supremacist level. Like when you go to an area where there's nothing but white people and people constantly ask you where you're from and are just totally asking you questions and blah blah blah. Thinking you're better than any other race is definately ignorance, no matter the situation, in my book. Not fully understanding that stereotypes are stereotypes even though you've met people who definately break those stereotypes... ignorance. Not having any clue that a certain stereotype is a stereotype and isn't necessarily always true because you don't have any evidence otherwise... is just... a "guess." That's misinformed. I don't know, it's kinda hard to put what I think into words. :T I think there's a certain level where ignorance isn't ignorance. I mean... having a certain opinion while living in a place like Los Angeles could be construed as ignorance, but if you put that person in a place where they just can't be EXPECTED to know any differently.... I wouldn't say they're *RACIST* per se. They just... don't know and don't have the means to find out. Ignorance has a lot of factors than just one's opinion, I think.

Point well taken. Not everyone from other countries "truly" understand the really meaning. Most of the times they figure it out after they have gotten the crap beaten out of them.
I haven't seen it (even though I live 1 freak'in hour from NYC) CT doesn't get any Asian channels. So somebody tell me if they have a website. My guess to is that the Japaness don't really have a large population in Japan to complain about the show. However, I do like "Mad TV's " Bunny Swan the Korean lady.

I heard that this skit was from the Chris Rock Show.
I do find it offensive in its treatment of Asians because its humor comes mainly from the caricatures it paints of East Asian people.
At the same time, I do see some other point to the skit. I think it's along the same lines of something like Malibu's Most Wanted where they're trying to show how absurd and ridiculous non-black appropriation of African American culture can be. It often gets misused and trivialized the same way the characters in this skit do.
I'm still incensed though. It's way too racially charged for my tastes.

The only thing that bothers me about it is that it's Japanese Americans playing Japanese people. The "wassup nigga?!" thing happens a lot more among Asian Americans than it does among Asians, but because they chose to make the characters Japanese everyone who sees it thinks it's a real racist Japanese TV show and not social satire. Also, their Japanese accents suck. IMO they could've done something much funnier and more accurate with Japanese American characters, instead of just poorly portraying Japanese people.
