Please list your nominations and voting choices. Alright, "fobbiest" isn't a word, but I think most of you will understand what is meant.

I was born outside the US

I'm not Asian American either

I am a citizen of an Asian nation

And I'm still no FOB. It's an attitude thing, man.

I say SWK is the biggest wannabe FOB, and HH is... I dunno, the biggest FOB groupie :P . Dunno who the biggest FOB is, since he/she probably can't post on this forum in English!

no way man. i don't even have an accent when i speak english (even though some of my friends claim i do). i'm certain that a clearly obvious accent is the first and foremost qualification here.

hmm what's FOB about me:

1. my eating habits and in general, style, are very messy. For instance, i don't comb my hair and i crack chicken bones for marrow.
2. i karaoke to myself [only w/o a mic cuz i dun have a comp one and i'm too lazy to reach for the living room mics that can be plugeged into the karaoke machine]
3. I'm very loud.
4. I'm even prejudiced against other Chinese.
5. I live in Flushing, NY.

What's not FOB:

1. I listen to "white" (which is based on "black") music.
2. I don't speak/read/write any other language than English passably
3. I don't know what any food, etc is called.
4. I'm a jingoistic American.
5. I spent my first 3 yrs of my life in America in Columbia, MO

tough call, but i'm honored i'm a mention in the FOB thread. :) i guess i'm not TOO twinkie.

Honestly I don't think anyone here is outright fobby, tho I'm gonna go out on a limb and say me eric and iris, since we are americans in asia. We are fobs, but kinda going the other way.

Now, if we talk about me being a FOB below Mexico then it wouldn't apply, cuz that's my turf

yea exactly....FOBs aren't born into the same society and situation as AA's, so obviously the problems and/or luxuries they face and receive will be different.

I am the most fobbiest...

I am born in Hong Kong.
I insistt on speaking fluent Chinese with my family... even though it sucks.
I spend more time with my family than my friends.
I listen popular Cantonese, mandarin, Japanese, and Korean music... via Kazaa.
I play ping pong.

Of course, like most immigrants from Hong Kong, we immigrated in style. Those from Hong Kong are FOB's as in Fresh Off Business Class.

nah, poor grammar would make you quintessentially dumb American. :) plus, FP, you eat too much to be FOB. you're gonna be a fat American before you hit 40.
in fact, a lot of FOBs have very good written grammar cuz they had to study this stuff for the TOEFFL. On the other hand, a lot of us educated in the American school system have had very few grammar lessons.

i think if you wanna be fob, you gotta blatantly misuse idioms. like "the coat of my teeth" rather than "skin of my teeth" or something.

I'm back in New York now. I de-fobbicized for a month in Missouri to re-suburbanize myself. I thought I had SARS when I came back. Everyone around me at home got sick. Everyone. My roommate, my sister, my friends....I am a bringer of death. I rule.

I liked working and living in Hong Kong. I learned to be a FOB there. Now I know all the major movie and music stars. I couldn't be the most fobbiest member but some qualifications are:

- Mandarin fluent
- likes all Canto-pop/Asian music
- cook old-school Asian style with the foil covering the stove
- have a ping-pong table
- was beaten, uh "spanked," I mean spanked as a child for getting B's in school

but having no accent and working in the rap industry negates me from nomination or any awards.

true..however

FOBs also struggle more with grammar altho their grammar may be more accurate, whereas whether we use correct grammar or not, we just type it out without thinking twice. I was referring more to the amount of hesitation or time it takes for us to express ourselves..i'd say that practically all of us here don't think twice that much to wonder 'hmm does that sound okay/right/correct'.

Forget about you, what about the rest of us?! Maybe the only reason you didn't die is that you're a carrier - and now you've brought SARS over to the US! I live in Missouri now, damn it!
