yeah they decided to do their solo projects. it was confirmed when Yuka Honda put out her solo album. it's a good album, but it doesn't have vocals and it's definitely not the same without lovely Miho Hatori's accented singing.

The Pancakes

http://www.thepancakes.com/bilder/disco/bons2.jpg
actually this is not a band at all. "The Pancakes" is the front name for the work of an independent musician in HK called Deejay. she's really cool and her music has been described as "naive techno pop". she combines sad lyrics with happy music. it makes a nice effect.

I saw Cibo Matto at this little club and I didn't know much about them at the time. I thought that dude looked familiar, I didn't realize unitl later he was Lennon's kid. I wish their albums sounded more like did they live. I have a totally kick ass groovy version of "Know Your Chicken" that blows away the album version.

Okay, I think she might be letting her ego fly too far by using the character for "Best" as her trademark thing. It's dragged on to her recent "I Am" album. Anyway, this CD has a selection of good songs, and all previous songs are re-mixed and has new vocals. All in all, this one's a winner.
The Grass Monkey rates this CD:
8/10

how is the newest album? i have their last three. musically pinkerton is my favorite, even though it got so much shit from the critics. but i would say that lyrically the blue (first) album "spoke to" me and my friends the most.
I like it alright. It's a bit rough around the edges and rawer in emotion, much like Pinkerton. So if you liked Pinkerton, you'll probably like Maladroit. Their previous green album was easier to listen to, more polished. In this album, I particularly like the songs "keep fishin'," "burndt jamb," "slob," and "december." Since I have their other three cds, I thought I might as well get this one.

the music and song lyrics are origionally written by Larry Henely and Jeff Silbar
and it was origionally recorded by Roger Whittaker... and various other artists have done other renditions of the song BEFORE bette midler.. such as Gladys Night and the Pips, Willie Nelson, and Sheen Easton... under the title Hero... and yeah, Bette Midler sang that particular song on Beaches... which we know it as Wind Beneath My Wings...

Okay, this post is really gonna date me and officially turn me into an old fogey, but here goes...
Back in 1990, I made a tape (that's the thin brown stuff that goes through a player) of some uplifting songs to put me in a good mood (no love songs — nothing about co-dependence). Anyway, a few years ago, it sounded like there was something wrong with the tape, so I stopped playing it. But I played it a few days ago, and it sounds fine now. I really missed it, and I've been listening to it a lot these past few days. Here are the songs on the tape:
side one
The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun
Juluka - Kilimanjaro
The Clash - I'm Not Down
R.E.M - Driver 8
Fred Astaire - Start All Over Again
Dire Straits - Walk of Life
Gordon Lightfoot - Don Quixote
Silly Wizard - Donald McGillavry
Sam Cooke - Twisting the Night Away
The Bothy Band - The Laurel Tree
The (English) Beat - Ackee One, Two, Three
Los Lobos - La Bamba
an ethnographic field recording of a man singing an old Hassidic hopke
Juluka - Woza Friday
side two
John Lennon - Power to the People
Peter, Paul & Mary - When the Ship Comes In (I didn't have access to the Dylan version)
The Smiths - Panic
Juluka - Mana Lap'ho
R.E.M. - It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)
Tracy Chapman - (Talkin' 'Bout a) Revolution
Talking Heads - Nothing but Flowers
Flatt & Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown
10,000 Maniacs - Peace Train
Bob Marley & The Wailers - One Love
The Smiths - Vicar in a Tutu
Jim Croce - I Got a Name
Madness - The Sun and the Rain
Pete Seeger - We Shall Overcome

Faith Hill, "This Kiss" is playing on the radio.
I remember when I first heard it, for some reason, the intro reminded me of REM's Shining Happy People, so I'd get excited thinking I'm going to hear an REM song I like, and then this crap plays.
alt now my taste in music must have gotten even worse than when i was a kid, because i think this song is ok now. :)

I love that song. Everything is right about it: the lyrics, the vocals, the music itself (I like the little banjo/ mandolin/ whatever thing that Kyle (lead guitarist) plays in the beginning and in the end of the song).
When I heard Disease I thought the album was gonna be a dissapointment. But I love them again after hearing Unwell. The only reason I won't listen to it now is because it's so depressing, and I don't wanna fill my head with that negative stuff right now.....;)

Great song, I must be kinda late finding this out, but the song is not about an actual girl.....it's kinda of a metaphor comparing hip-hop to a girl. So every time the song refers to a girl, they're actually talking about hip-hop.
Anyway, right now it's White Stripes- Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground. I love their stuff, sounds like it was recorded in 1972, not 2002. Has a really raw sound to it that I love.

hahhah it's all good. can't expect everyone to like a certain kind of music, can we now?
but that's not an aussie accent. that's just that weird HK accent. they try to teach english with the british pronounciation, except that they've got terrible english speakers teaching kids terrible english, so it gets all screwed up in the process. hahhah!
if you like music like cibo matto, buffalo daughter, pizzacato five, etc etc, "new rock" or acid jazz kind of stuff, you might like the pancakes. except that she's probably got only a tiny fraction of the budget that those other bands have, because most HKers just don't appreciate something that's not mainstream. which is probably why she sings mostly in english, because she wants to appeal to a global audience. and it's not really a band. it's just one girl that represents her music as "the pancakes", as if it was a band. she's really just a plain normal HKer girl. she even looks plain. she does everything herself for her music. probably the only thing she doesn't do herself is distribution. one of the bus companies in HK used one of her songs for its TV ad, and she became somewhat famous. people have tried to get interviews with her and some production companies have offered to sign her on, but she refuses to do interviews (she only rarely does it, and when she does, it's always the case that she requests them to send her questions and she sends them back the answers) and she refuses to sign with any production companies. she almost never lets her picture be taken. i think i've only seen a total of 3 pictures of her on the web. and if she was walking around on the streets, you wouldn't know who she is because she looks like everybody else. she doesn't like the way the HK music industry operates, so she does everything herself. it's really commendable. she's really doing what she personally enjoys doing.
anyway, check her out: www.thepancakes.com (http://www.thepancakes.com)

you do know, that the song is making fun of japanese people and saying how he's got to masturbate because he's in prison and he's not having any fun or having any sex, right?

Barenaked Ladies- If I Had a Million Dollars
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you an exotic pet (Like a llama or an emu)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)

If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love
If I Had $1000000, If I Had $1000000
If I Had $1000000, If I Had $1000000
I'd be rich...
