Hello, I'm Janet... hence artsfartsyjanet. I like to keep current on events, especially anything affecting the Asian American community. I love to concoct my own meals and serve them to my guinea pigs... I mean my friends. =)

Hiya AFJanet :)
What's your take on St. Louis? I'm applying for jobs all over the states and was wondering if it's worth it to check out Missouri.
ps - What kind of concoctions? any favorite recipes? :D

Don't come to St. Louis... although the job market here is pretty good. =) It's a give or take. See, if you're from a big city, I don't think you'll like it here, but what do i know? I've lived here all of my life. So, I've seen anything and everything there is to see here. Overall, it's a nice city. It's good to know people here or else you're bore your ass off. :) Good luck job hunting... I'm sure I've made a wonderful impression of St. Louis. ehehhe.

Hi Janet!
What kind of stuff do you cook? I'll volunteer to be a guinea pig, as long as theres no dairy involved. Then I'll be an exploding guinea pig. :D
Anyways, what's ABC anyways? Am I missing something?

I think I know some other ABC's from that area... there are these 2 brothers + sister who I believe all went to MIT (I'm sure about 2 of them, not sure about 3rd)... ring a bell?

I'm surprised I haven't. The Chinese American community here's small, but it's growing steadily. Families know other families around the area. Too bad I don't know'em. :( :D

I cook a mean salmon dish. What I do is take a couple of aluminum foil (or you can use a baking pan) and form it into a bowl. Then, I add some olive oil, a few thinly sliced dried red chili pepper. A pinch of salt, two table spoons of oyster sauce, 1 table spoon of soy sauce, and freshly squeezed lime... Use about 1 teaspoon of it. Then, I add 1/4 cup of water, stir the seasoning, add the entire slice of salmon (about 1 lb), and marinate it for a few minutes combining all of the ingredients. Then, I add some cilantro on top of the salmon and heat it up in the oven under 375 or 400 degree temperature for 20 minutes.
At the same time, I place the salmon in the oven I also must prepare the pasta in the oven. I like to use thicker pasta, but you can use any kind. Say you want to use angel hair pasta.... After you boil the pasta, strain it, and place it in cold water for 30 seconds or so. Then leave it there on the strainer so that some of the water drains. Take another foiled bowl or small baking pan, add garlic, sliced onions, green onions, thinly sliced portabella mushrooms and eggplant, a tsp of oyster sauce, a tsp of soy sauce, mix the ingredients up, and pour the pasta in it. Mix the ingredients up with the pasta. Finally, this is optional, but I like to add 2 tsp of coconut milk on top of the pasta. I think it compliments the dish well. Oh also put a 1/2 tsp of olive oil in the pasta before you add the coconut milk. Now, you should have your pasta and salmon cooking in the oven at the same time for 20 minutes. When you're done, you can serve it on a plate with the salmon next to your portion of pasta. If you don't like alcohol, lemonade will go great with the dish, but I prefer a little bit of wine. PRESTO!

Know anyone from your area who went to Harvard (or more appropriately, with that pretentious tone, Hah-vahd :P )? There's another ABC I know, who I believe is from St Louis, but I don't know how long he actually lived there. He graduated in 2000.

Nope, I'm still considered a pioneer in St. Louis until I'm proven wrong.

Hey Janet!!
IT's ME!! =) Anyways, people, I am Janet's friend from DA LOO (a.ka. St. Louis, MO)... I think it's time we get some more representation from St. Louis on here! :D
So, anyways, Janet and I have known each other for nearly 5 years. We went to college together--actually we were next door neighbors on campus, believe it or not! We were practically roommates, though, since I had a single and her roommate was MIA most of the time. So, anyways, we have a bunch of mutual friends here whom we hang out with most of the time in St. Louis. Janet is right--St. Louis is a pretty nice city, but it's good to have people you know here, otherwise it can get pretty boring.
Janet is a good cook--don't let her fool you! hehe What else? I am in the process of getting my license to practice Speech Therapy. So, this fall, I will start a practicum (internship) in the schools.
That's all for now!
ps..Janet--too bad I don't eat fish, your salmon recipe sounds great! :)

I don't like wine in general, but I like only sweet wine that I personally picked out from a winery here in Augusta, Missouri. Although your suggestion sounds just as yummy, I'm sticking to mine. Sue me for being stubborn. =) The peaches are ala whatever you want me to be! jk.... lol... It's a la carte buddy. =)
