Great movie detailing the role of American and British interest before the Vietnam War. Figuratively, its a struggle for "Asia" played by Hai Yen Do (who can't act but is fun to look at). The consequence of this American savior is the destruction and ruin of her life (vietnam). Its really moving. However, its kinda sickening watching Michael Caine bag a girl about 50 years younger than him. other than that it really makes you wonder about this war with Iraq.

The movie was originally set to come out in the spring of 2002, I think; but because of September 11th, the film, which is about a very bloody war that America has ambivalent feelings about, was shelved (voluntarily, by the studio) for nearly a year. It was never banned, and it's actually the second time that Graham Greene's novel has been made into a film (the first version came out in the late 50's).

i saw the trailer during some movie (i forgot which), but yeah, it's interesting to see more vietnam war movies that illustrate what individuals did during the war and not just about military conquest. then again i'm all for any movies with asians, as long as the portrayal of asians leads to more discussion of asian roles.

I'm too lazy to rent movies right now. I'll probably get my hands on it the next time I visit the video store though. Historic importance?

What do you mean as a movie?
Video? DVD?
and again, I'm too lazy to visit the video store. :(
I'll eventually get to it though.
