Costs are variable but heres a breakdown.
1. front Clip 1800-2500 (2200 phase2 motortrend)depending on year and mileage. Motor/ Trans i recomend buying a front clip cuz u'll need alota shit from it/ the clip to protect like, wiper amps, full wiring harness, sumtimes these things get damaged oil pad, crank angle sensor, ignitor chip for the direct fire ignition, ecu (*there are 18 different wiring harnesses and ecu combinations for s13 swaps* non fujita). u'll need certainthings like AC compressor, guage cluster, and power steering pump for 89-90 s13's.
2. Intercooler kit 600-1000 most likely ur clips intercooler was crushed in the accident that made it into a clip. thats the price for any Kit i recomend a kit because they are designed to fit into the chassis w/o have to remove (u still have to trim and make a new hole near battery). add in battery relocation or small SVR battery into that cost too.
3. Fuel Pump 150-330 Big one walbroro drop in fuel pump for s13 (these do fail alot) or a 300zx twin turbo one custom fabricated both are good for 400hp, ur stock S13 fuel pump isnt safe past stock boost, sumtimes not even at stock boost depends on car.
4. Labor: 1500-2000$ this is the going rate, phase2motortrend.com charges 1500 so does Non Fujita, Cartune charges variable amounts.
5. random fluids and oil filters 100$-150$ u think the shop will provide these? sumtimes sumtimes not.
around 5k is average. if a friends serious or sumthing PM me i can lead the right way w/ SR experts wayne/luke/james Phase 2 these guyz are the best...james got an sr goin in 1993, did andy's s13 to s14 swap in 1995, and waynes 1995 w/ s13 motor in 1995 also. i recomend them or Non Fujita he'z reasonable just not that fast cuz hez a perfectionist.
Try to find a lower mileage motor, red tops are older. black tops typically newer...sumtimes heres what we found most red tops have a shit load of miles...like 60-100k US miles, most black tops are about 40-60k miles...once in a while u get a good tokyo motor (they dont drive much there) w/ like 20-30k US miles but thats rare...for example phase 2 has 3 SR's right now one black top w/ about 45-50k miles, 2 Red top one w/ 60k miles and the other we have no clue other then its clean as hell...
Common problems are missing ignitor chip (400$ from Q45), missing Crank Angle Sensor $$$, frozen oil pump put new oil into the oil pump assembly and hope to god it cranks, O-rings. Also check turbo shaft play alota japanese guyz drove the shit outa them and just hard shut them down.
if u dont believe me add up this list

thanks. my lil cuzn has an s13 and is building his KA24de motor. i just wanted to compare the pricing between the sr20det and building a turbocharged KA. i heard it got a lot cheaper, but wasn't sure how much it would cost exactly...

it costs about the same to make a turbo ka or Sr swap. mainly because the KA requires you to out source alot of stuff. Like u gotta get the turbo kit itself, NS Sport or Fmax costs about 3500$. Then find sumwhere like Jim Wolf to tune your car's ecu and/or give it sum good dyno tuning w/ either a Fuel Controller and/or boost controller. The stock Ka cant take more then 6-7 psi on stock injectors so u'll end up upgrading those and then u need to possiblely upgrade the pistons to a lower compression type... Ka or SR tho same shit u just dropped 5k and made ur car alot faster.
