I come home from a 72 hour rotation, just want to chill. What do I hear? My neighbors karaoking full blast in Mandarin. And they suck, they sound like cats in heat. And they sing English songs with a heavy heavy Chinese accent. This has been going on for a month now. OMG make them stop, they're the loudest. I know it's early, but a man needs his rest!
Ok done venting.

You should call me over and let me blast my imitation Led Zeppelin out. We'll see who does the noisier/more horrifying karaoke!

i have the *same* problem. only the dumb lady sings in the middle of the night.
solution: egg their apartment window while they are singing. use lots and lots of eggs.

isn't that the song in the beach movie with sammi cheng?
ChinaLama
07-17-2002, 07:06 PM
re: kasia, yes. But I think the song itself is older than the movie, but it was done by the 3 goofy guys in the beach. heheheh the subtitles for that movie are so funny: "I am Hercules. Small but strong!"
But Sammi Cheng is kind of weird--cuz in her songs she sings w/ a pretty deep voice, but when she's speaking in the movie (summer holiday), her voice is HIGH, like typical cutesy c-pop voice but spoken.i like her singing voice better =/ (plus the mandarin is above my level).

here's a funny flash video of the song. actually this has been around for quite a while so maybe some of you have seen it.

here's a flash video of a punk version of the chinese version of the Internationale as done by Tang Dynasty. they're a popular rock group in beijing's small fledgeling underground rock scene. but i think they've disbanded now though. actually the flash is not very good, but i can't find an mp3 of this song.

Faye got weird in her last few CD's wtf is "di dar?!?!?!" Sammi is ok. I prefer Kelly as of late. But Faye's old stuff are still my fave.
And Chinalama, I think why Sammi has a high, cute, C-pop kind of voice in the movies, is because those movies were originally filmed in Cantonese and dubbed over to Mandarin. Maybe that's why there are voice differences.

what? di dar is really old! di dar is part of her old stuff! i like her new stuff better, especially her last 3 CDs. and yeah sammi's voice doesn't seem much different to me in her movies than in her songs (i watch the original undubbed cantonese versions).

really? i would have expected the opposite reaction from you! are you succumbing to the idea that it's ok for a man to date a much younger woman but not vice versa? and nic tse is 21 now i think. hahhah and there's this joke that faye's daughter should call nic "gor gor" (big brother) instead of "sok sok" (uncle).
by the way, for those of you who don't know, "kan guo lai" is sung by richie ren (the male lead in that movie Summer Holiday). he's taiwanese and some of his songs are very good.

well for [i:c2a0117ef8]their[/i:c2a0117ef8] age difference, i have to agree with you. but i still have to give faye alot of props for going public with it in a culture where if the gender was reversed, its perfectly acceptable and sometimes even desired, whereas in their situation, it's looked down upon.
but what do you think is an acceptable age difference? i have been trying to figure this out actually. i am 25 right now, and i'm thinking i should have a lower age limit of 21, and maybe an upper age limit of 27. or maybe i should take it on a case-by-case basis? a cousin of mine who's only half a year younger is dating an 18-year old. do you think that is good?

how did we go from "STOP MY NEIGHBORS FROM KARAOKING" to "Age differences in dating?" Anyway, I don't see why everyone is hung up about age differences--to me, if he/she's able to consent (and i think 16 maybe 14 yr olds are capable of consent), then it's all good. "Good taste" is just another means for the Evil Establishment to restrain us and keep us down, just like eating etiquette.

well for me it's not so much as [i:93fa8da2db]good taste[/i:93fa8da2db] as it is that i know that i'd be on a different level and stage in life than an 18-year old or a 38-year old. generally speaking that is. that's why i think maybe i should take it on a case-by-case basis instead.

do you think it was a big deal for faye to go public with it though? it seems like she doesn't really care what people think of her anyway.
acceptable age difference: i would say case-by-case basis.
actually, re: my faye statement about it being gross. i think i only thought it was gross b/c it was nick tse. can't sing. born with a silver spoon. (read my post about what i think about rich people  )

Ok role reversal. if you were that 17 year old, and you had a chance to have a relationship with Faye, wouldn't you do it, too? Hell, I would.
I think there is more of a social stigma on a woman dating a significantly younger man than a man dating a significantly younger woman. With that said, who cares about her love life, it was consentual.
I really doubt he was victimized, if anything he's probably benefitting more from the relationship than she did. He's probably getting a whole lotta women now, cause he is "the guy that dated Faye."
Personally, I like my women to be at least of legal drinking age.
P.S. You guys hijacked my post and my neighbors are still karaoking!

well the whole thing with celebrities going public about [i:3266bb26b2]anything[/i:3266bb26b2] in HK is that all the gossip magazines go crazy to stretch and distort the stories. gossip reporters in HK are ruthless. i saw them chasing some celebrity on the streets ones. it was scary, i thought someone was about to get killed or something, but they were just chasing after someone famous. i find it difficult to believe that faye truly doesn't care what gossip mags have to say about her. well, she doesn't react to their statements because really, that's the best way to deal with them. but you know they actually follow her little girl around and take pictures of her to publish in their magazines? i mean she's just a little girl who doesn't know anything. i wish they'd leave her alone. one magazine even reported everything about how much her private schooling costs. it's ridiculous, why would they do that???
and about nic "lemon" tse... hahhah yeah silver spoon. nothing but a pretty face he is. he gets the blunt of all the gossiping because everybody in HK thinks that he's just a spoiled little kid. and i agree.
