kingdom come takes place several decades in the future where the heros of yesteryear have receeded and have isolated themselves from the rest of the "flatscans (term coined in X-Factor)"
their children, grand children, and great grandchildren (along with a deluge of metahumans) have taken on the jobs that their forefathers had laid out for them.
unfortunately, this new breed of "hero" is reckless. they have no consideration of human life. they only want to take out the "villains", when in the process, they themselves become the villains of society.
the destruction of america's breadbasket causes the "gods" of yesteryear to appear and start the reform of the newer generation of heros.
superman leads, along with his justice legue of heros including Wonderwoman, Batman, Green Lantern, Flash, etc.

this book describes the end of times of both humans and metahumans as seen through the eyes of prophet Norman McCay, guided by the Angel Spectre, the angel of death.

very good read. i recommend this to anyone with or without intimate knowledge of comic history

This is an excellent comic book epic! I highly recommend! (but don't read the sequel).

Kingdom Come is like at least 4 to 5 years old. But it's totally awesome. I love the art. The story is great too. Reminds me of the stuff Neil Gamon wrote for his Sandman comics, during the early issues.

Alex Ross rules. I thought the epic was handled very well in general. It was much more interesting than Marvels because it got less mired in the soap opera of the normal characters. If I wanted to read about non-heroes, I would have stopped reading comics a long time ago.

That whole sequel (or prequel?) featuring Batman's son and Robin & Starfire's daughter was ass though. Absolute ass.

oh okay... so there's a sequel and a prequel... that would explain the confusion. Yeah, the two masterminds behind kingdom, mark waid and alex ross, had a falling out after the planned sequel... but it got picked up by dc anyways and just... well... should be forgotten.

nothing beats the original concept book, Kingdom Come

the prequal and the sequal, IMO, are irrelavent.

Haha, you crash at Barnes and Nobles and Borders and read comic books for free? Me too!

I'm not that big of a fan of the DC universe. I like Dark Horse and some independent publishers much better.

i tried reading the league of extraordinary gentlemen at bn but after it got to the english chinatown all the art was too racist for me to stand. did read the avp comics and they were great.

on a side note, i read the entire ender series and bean series at bn and bam. i'm such a thefter.
