nah, it keeps the language fresh and interesting. when a language stops evolving it becomes like latin. dead.
except the valley girl refrain... "like, ya know...?" oh - my - god. that annoys the hell outta me. i can't believe that hasn't died out yet. ya, thats not really slang. just an expression. but still...
slang i see and hear lots of now: "yo thats tight" and "damn, that is so gangsta" and "foshizzel-nizzle"
i gotta admit that last one is a bit too much. but it'll prolly die out soon enough.
thats one sic ass, tricked out ride, yo , nah mean???

But yeah, I don't mind slang or whatever. I hate it when people type in internet shorthand, using so much "ROFLAMO", "LOL", "I LUV U 2" and fill their typing up with all types of "@, ^, *, etc. that it becomes almost impossible to read- that's what I have a problem with.

That's funny. I had an argument with a friend's wife about that...I argued for "psych" and she for "syke." Of course, she also tried to convince me that the term originated in Philly...

Not to go OT here why is it that most if not nearly all slang terms come from black urban culture (ebonics? for lack of a better term). so what y'all say?

I'm beginning to think that within a few years we'll all be speaking some perverted form of English free of real grammar and proper spelling.
What happened to the Queen's English? This is absolutely frightening. :(
My right eye actually twitches involuntarily whenever I hear someone speak ebonics.

That's not really true. Words like "y'all" might have been spread to northern White suburbanites through rap videos, but its origin is distinctly southern - which would make it a mix of both Black and White rural influences.
One thing I do find interesting about slang is how much of it originates from sources that most people are completely unaware of. Like calling people "G" all the time, most people think "G" is an abbreviation of "Gangsta", but I read that it's really short for "God", and part of a whole slew of terms used by 5%ers (a sect of Black Muslims that broke away from the Nation of Islam), who are unusually well represented among rappers.

Gotta love the slang from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Wayne's World. It will never go out of style in my book.
I've heard "shiesty" used as a synonym for cheap/stingy as well as shady. Could be a sac thing, or could be that the people I hang out with don't know how to use slang. Another semi-Sac thing that actually seems limited to my high school -- everyone says "fob" with a long O sound, like they are saying "fobe." Fob rhyming with bob sounds weird to me.

Me and my friends always said "Eff-Oh-Bee" because we got tired of having to explain that "fob" is an acronym to other people...

My favorite one that I think is Seattle-only was skitchin', which was running on the playground after it rained and then sliding on the concrete(on your shoes). Folks would have skitchin' contests to see who could go the farthest.

some of these are probably repeated but the old school ones I've heard are:
narly, rad, kewl beans, cool, hot, bad, dang, that's tight, he's trippin, wack, gotta bounce, ... like a mug, what's up dog,.... *drawing a blank*
Yeah, my repetoire sucks. hehehe
