Obviously you do need a Masters, PhD, MD, JD, etc for some fields, but I think there are some for which that is questionable, i.e. what you need to advance could be gained through on-the-job experience.
For those of who have gone through the extra schooling and are now in the working world, did the extra degree(s) really help that much for what you do now? Was it worth the additional time and money?

I think for fields that don't require a grad degree, work experience plays more of a factor.

Honestly, advanced degrees are useless unless you're practicing in law, medicine, science, teacher education, counseling, and clinical psychology. For some, business (depending what sector that requires MBA and such). The reason for advanced degrees for those specific fields: to prevent lawsuits and malpractice issues. Therefore, some of those fields require a license or degree to prove you're okay to practice in the real world. If you're doing anything BUT those, don't bother and a BA/BS is good enough! Don't incur further student debt than necessary.
