View Full Version : Boston Event

Black-Asian interracial violence and tensions are an unfortunate
reality that is on the rise in Boston and in the nation. Recent
comments made by NBA Star Shaquille O'Neil towards new NBA recruit
Yao Ming, "ching-chong-yang-wah-ah-soh." is just the tip of the
iceberg.
Asian Americans are also guilty of having racial prejudice towards
African Americans. Our communities do not talk about Black-Asian
relations; it is our "dirty laundry". And our young people are the
casualties as interracial violence escalates in the schools and on
the T in both communities of color. Issues of systemic racism and
white supremacy are central to this predicament. What is little-known
is that Asian Americans and African Americans have a shared history
of working together in solidarity to combat institutionalized racism
in Boston and beyond.

The Asian American Resource Workshop (AARW) and Tieng Xanh-VOICE,
in co-sponsorship with Project HIP-HOP, CAPAY, Bethel AME Church,
The City School, MBTA, Viet-AID, Asian American Studies Program
at UMass-Boston, The Little House-985 Drop-In Center* invite you
to join us as we begin a necessary dialogue between the two communities
to learn about past historical moments of solidarity between Asian
Americans and African Americans, the current daily reality of
interracial
violence experienced by young people, and finally, hear from community
activists on how we move forward and forge solidarity between the
two communities.
Special guest: Mel King.
