the problem is i don't think that he want's influence, i also hear there is an nba draft prospect coming from s. korea who is 7'3" and has good skills for a big man as well

The biggest impact will be when a good looking American born Asian American becomes a star in a major sport. A guy who has commercial appeal.
Yao will be a big impact, as was Ichiro, but neither speaks very good English. That's a key.

yao will be a big impact...but my hopes are hinged on timmy change...qb of hawaii...despite his wooping of my crimson tide...i still think he may have a bigger impact....but in terms of basketball, yao is definitely a big impact....but come to think of it...asians are starting to be more accepted in sports in general.....we just need an asian-american to rise through the ranks...

Check out Michael Jordan guarded Yao during first quarter action in their NBA basketball game in Washington, February 27, 2003
Dominique Wilkins and Kenny Walker from 80's are other good slam dunkers besides MJ but you can disagree

last time i checked jackie robinson wasn't asian :P
i think yao has brought a whole new demographic into watching the NBA. The game I went to the other night.. there were mad Asian people.. i'll bet 80% of those asians were going just to watch Yao (me included) if does that at every single city he plays out.. imagine the increased viewership..
I think he still has a long way to go in regards to developing his skills as a player... maybe in a couple of years he'll be even more dominating
