i heard the ps2, since it's primarily a game system, the dvd player tends to wear out. i've seen it happen in more than one console, too. after about a year or so. how long have you had yours?

I've had it about 2 years, but it has never had heavy usage as either a game system or a DVD player. I'll get a real player eventually...after I make a tad bit more money :)

it's primarily the lens from what i've heard. a few friends have bought ps2's for anywhere from 40-50 and told it doesn't really work...^_~ all they needed was a new lens. cannabalize an old cd drive, and wala....new lens...working ps2, for hardly anything and almost no effort.

gamecube...man, my friend bought one...and he's regretted it...theres been like no games....hell...their giving away games now...literally....oh...yeah the ps2 can't read all dvds either...i wanted to watch braveheart (freeeedom!...sniff) on mine and....alas no scots-a-battling or warrior-poets for me

Both PS2 and Gamecube. I think I like them equally, because I play both for different reasons. PS2 for RPGS and Fighting Games. Gamecube for Party and Platform games. For Strategy and FPS I turn to my computer. Only reason why I'd get the X-box is for that beach volleyball game, and Steel Battalion. *drools* But yea, PS2 and Gamecube baby! :lol:

the gamecube is not for everyone

I love it, the games are great, its small, compact, quiet and it fits into my decor

but the type of games they have arent for the average joe

Not everyone is going to enjoy animal crossing, metroid prime, and zelda

thats what i did ....got a great deal on a phillips 5-disc prog scan for 120 on amazon!.....amazon has some great deals .....oh...and gamecube DOES rule for super smash bros...i got banned from the cube for an hour cuz i kept on doing the lighting attack..and winning =)...pika-CHUUU

I own both Ps2 and Xbox. Xbox Live is sweet. Especially since you can play fighting gamers, from Japan and Korea. And it is not very laggy. Ps2 is good for rpgs, and such. But I play my box more. Well until Xenosaga is released.

Only get a lamecube, if you are a Nintendo franchise lover. It really isn't worth it. even though Zelda is going to be aweome.

Personally I like the Gamecube and the Dreamcast as well as of course the old-school NES and SNES, even though I also have an Xbox and a PS2.....Sony and Microsoft have all the backup and therefore ensured success whereas the other systems are more niche but I always felt the Playstations were too commercialized. I was always into the multiplayer games and platform adventure stuff over sports games or innovative simulation or stuff like Metal Gear Solid, which is kewl but with little replay value 'cause once u beat it ur done with it.

i like rpg's and rpg's will alway be most abundant on ps. it's why i turned traitor on the snes in the first place. ah, the early days of being a nintendo benedict arnold.

i am very iffy on the new zelda....at first, i really hated the new cartoony cell-shaded link....then it grew on me...and now after the new commercials, i hate it again....he just looks...odd.....the link on the 64 looked cool, and you couldn't beat him and epona or chugging milk...ahhhh

oh...and for all those who loved the gamecube b/c of super smash bros.....the PS2 is making their own version with characters from Hudson, Genki, Takara and Konami....this includes characters such as the TRANSFORMERS, gusy from bomberman, beyblades...mayber even that old school dude from adventure island? and im sure konami has some great characters too such as the dudes from contra....sweeet

PS2 here. I like my PS2, because I can play my PS1 games on it, the DVD player, and the nice graphics. I hated it when you would buy for example a Nintendo system, and it would become outdated and they would stop making games for your system. Then you'd buy the updated version, and the same thing would happen. This I why I like the PS2 so much. I can't wait till they release the PS3, that thing is gonna be off the hook!
