Why is it considered normal, or even fashionable, for women to be lesbian or bisexual, but men are treated as social outcasts and ridiculed by everyone?
Does it have anything to do with the fact that many lesbian women can still hold on to their femininity, even tho the butch stereotype exists, it is not something seen very often, tho many gay men have that stereotype of an effeminate man who acts womanly, even tho not all gay men are like that.
Or is this question simply have no answer.. like why can girls wear pants and not guys?
What do you all think?

i don't think gay men are treated as outcasts by everyone, only be those that are ignorant and homophobic. i don't think homophobia is so much double standard, not only gay men get treated badly, lesbians that have adopted a more masculine persona also gets it too.
um. guys can wear pants.
guys can wear skirts too: kilts, sarongs
it just hasn't made a huge impact on the
fashion industry yet. there's no law stopping
a guy from wearing skirts, it's just whether
he's ballsy enough to pull on a skirt and be
confident, and fuck what others think of him.

it seems lots of guys like lesbians in theory and in porn videos. but then they find real life lesbians get on their nerves. in contrast, they dislike every gay character on TV and really don't wanna hear about gay sex, but find they can go out for drinks with their gay coworkers and watch a football game and chill with them just fine.

Long answer short: It's a power thing. To a lot of guys, being gay means being "effeminate," and being "effeminate" means to be "weak." And what guy want to appear "weak"? (This is all balderdash, of course.) Women don't have that same macho power trip going on. They may have their own petty battles and status strategies (we all do), but tripping on homosexuality tends not to be one of them...

*removes kilt, places pants on* jk
kilts feel good damnit ^_~ if that makes me a chick or a chick-like guy, i got the fists to beat down the guy who says so, so i'm not worried what others think.
i have to agree with shuriken tho. since men and women can't calim to have a "gay-dar", i feel that most of the time, in populations all over the world, the only gay members of the society that they meet or see are effeminate ones. this presents a tough stereotype for masculine homosexuals to get over. a friend of mine came out to our group in high school, and everyone started laughing and thought he was joking, because he was the uberjock. except i've run in to him and had a dbl date with my gf at the time and him and his bf. i was the only one NOT laughing. my friend when confronted by the laughs, shot me a worried look, and then started laughing, and saying how he was just joking about being gay.
since many people have homophobia, at least until properly educated and understand them, they unfortunately get treated like social lepers of society. gay people are just that...people. you, me, ur aunt, or grandfather. we're all people and this what more people need to understand and stop putting them in a different class or species.

I think it has a lot to do with what you expect from women. Women are curvey. They are sexual, men are not viewed in the same way. So it is easier to see women, falling for women then men falling for men.

This brings me back to my pet peeve about the word "suck" being used as a pejorative — as in "This sucks" or "You suck," etc. "Sucking" can only be a pejorative in a heterosexist all-male environment, where the "sucker" was the low man on the totem pole. In a romantic heterosexual context (and, I suppose, in an affirmatively gay-male context), sucking is a good thing. :)
So, I'm sad to hear the word "suck" constantly used to describe something negative. Now, that sucks.

I know two bisexual guys. Those two mofo's get mad poon and not just any poon but the poon from model like chicks aka the high quality grade A stuff. Whatever, they get props from me.
One of them considers himself bi, but leans more towards women. The other considers himself bi, but leans more towards men. It's like a political affiliation thing going on. Heh, bisexual chic mad confusing.
But the women these guys date, fuggin off da hook.

I knew this girl who loved gay male porn. She liked seeing two men instead of a man and a woman. Maybe she has penis envy?

Simply stated, it may not be right, but I feel the same way. In the majority, from my knowledge most guys get turned on by seeing 2 lesbians gettin it on, rather than women seeing 2 guys do there thing.

My interest isn't in *gay* porn per se. My interest is in sexual activity. I don't have any hang ups about homosexuality and don't think of men as less masculine because they are engaging in sexual activity with another man or men. I have gay porn as well as others.
But to answer the direct question at least in part, the guys in gay porn look more appealing to me. Better physique and grooming. Plus, I watch for technique. If I see something new that looks pleasurable to the recipient I'd be willing to try to do it. I figure they've got the same equipment they're handling. I'll defer to that expertise.

though people may SAY that homosexuality is generally accepted, it is in fact not.
you can see this through the controversy (where there should be none) over same sex marriges, that news article some while back about a teen who went to a catholic school and brought his gay date with him to the prom, etc.
to address the double standard: whether we like it or not, men rule the world. women struggle constantly just to be recognized all the time. and because men rule the world, men make the rules. men find it kinky when two women are together, but they are intimidated and disturbed when two men are together.

actually, i know a couple people (since i have a friend who is rather...flaming) and they say that they are generally intimidated by his open-ness over the subject of being homosexual.

It's not even that the lesbian has to be masculine to get shit from straight guys. They can be totally feminine, but have short hair, and wear bagging clothes, and maybe look like a boy, but sure as hell don't act like one. Most straight guys care about one thing and one thing only.........their little wee wee's, and that's it. Not all straight guys, but most of them.

In Japan, there's a whole genre of comics for teenaged girls (and older women, too) about relationships between gay men. They range from the melodramatic to the pornographic. These comics are often created by women for a primarily female audience, not a gay one... Not sure if that's an indication that Japanese women are more accepting of gays, or just that Japanese women objectify gays the way American men objectify lesbians.

i don't think being gay is normalized for women. Sexism in its deepest and darkest philosophy views women as lesser. and since we are in a sexist society we grown up with those ideas in our psyches. so being viewed as a lesser group people are more able to create reasons as to why women do the things they do. hysteria, mysogeny, homophobia, all root in sexism. sowhen society sees men are gay, society has a greater outcry because it goes against what society has created for men.
