A lot of white folk I know like to drench white rice with soy sauce. When you're out of okazu, side dishes, and you need to eat really quick, what do you eat with your rice?
furikake - seaweed seasoning ?
umeboshi- pickled plums ?
tsukemono - pickled cabbage ?
takuan - pickled daikon radish ?
mentaiko - spicy cod roe ?
Have you ever had neko manma? A raw egg mixed with hot rice and a little soy sauce? In Japan, my cousins like to eat that for breakfast.

I eat rice with soy sauce all the time, but my grandma "tsk tsk's" me, because that's what the poor people eat.
Well, grandma, I'm poor.
I'll usually eat with some kimchee or leftover salmon, or something.

A lotta times, poor food is the best food. I've always loved buyin' Dunkin Donuts by the bulk, rather than spend my dough on some upscale restaurant that serves me some $50 dish, and the ornamental big ass flower in the middle is bigger than the steak that comes with it, and it kinda tastes a bit better than plastic.
*Disclaimer* wouldn't know what plastic tastes like cause I would never be stupid enough to try it

I do that :P Rice goes with anything and everything. I'll even eat noodles or some other type of base grain or carb food with it.

I'm not sure what you got, Kasie, but the shredded pink stuff we use is usually dried shrimp.

A lot of white folk I know like to drench white rice with soy sauce.
Last year, my house had sushi for dinner one night. One of the German boys went to go clean up his plate, and walked by me and one of the Japanese girls with a saucer that still had about half an inch of soy sauce in it. She turned to me and said, "Nee, dooshite gaijin ga sonna takusan na shoyu -" by which point I was laughing my ass off, trying not to give away to the rest of my roommates who she was talking about.
Hmm, that Japanese looks a little wrong... Oh well.
