ingredients:
one big square sheet of seaweed
a bowl with mayo and soy sauce mixed together
a bowl of rice

1. put rice ontop of sheet of seaweed
2. make a line through the middle of rice with mayo mix
3. eat

has anyone ever had mayo + rice before? i think this is something that originated in hawai'i. kinda sounds gross but ...

Seaweed is good. . .I don't know about all of that stuff all together, though.

the mayo is the thing that makes it sound unsettling.

Totally agree with you, jose......great globs of artery clogging protein mixed in high sodium liquid death. Sounds kinda good now :)

I dunno if this is the norm? I had a chinese friend that lived in Japan for 7 years tho, and he was a sushi chef at a restaurant my ex worked for a bit. So he used to hook me up with food when I picked her up. There used to be mayo inside the cali rolls. Best cali rolls I've ever eaten.

you guys are making me sound like a freak. where are all the hawaii people at? they should know what i'm talking about.

i'm sure lots of places add mayo in their california rolls depending on whether they use imitation or softshell crab. it's to make it less stringy so it sticks together and is creamyish.

So what should be the consistency of the soy sauce and mayo?

Maybe should add some srirracha, too!

rice+mayo+soysause

hummm, all it is carbs, fat, and sodium. I do enjoy rice, mayo, and soysause, but not together in one big unhealthy mess.

In addition to tuna mayonnaise, rice balls sold today at convenience stores in Japan come with a wide range of mayonnaise-flavored fillings, such as shrimp with mayonnaise, cod roe with mayonnaise, chicken with mustard mayonnaise, and spicy pickles with mayonnaise. These rice balls are particularly favored by young Japanese, who find nothing unusual about combining mayonnaise with very Japanese ingredients like rice and soy sauce. Among the other foods popular with young people are mayonnaise-flavored snacks, including potato chips. The dressing has even become a common pizza topping.

you can find mayo on a couple of type of sushi, mostly the ones w/ crab meat or cooked tuna. Its not that bad actually, diffferent, but then again we also put things like spam (not email spam, Spam as in Hormel brand meat-like foodstuff) on too.

we had the best mayo in the world at my house, but i think i lost the squeeze bottle some place in the middle of moving from one apt to the next. it was definitely asian, too bad i don't remember what the brand of it was. time to go check out the ranch 99.
