There's this white guy I work with who looks over my shoulder when I visit sites like this. He asked "Are you lookin at yer Oriental site?". Seems like it bothers him when I'm looking at these sites.
It's not like I'm looking at ihatewhitepeople.com. Can I visit a site for my people in peace please?
I feel like I'mma stick my foot in his ass if he doesn't stop lookin over my shoulder.

Start reading ihatewhitepeople.com or Louis Farrakhan or something when he's around. Carry around a meat cleaver and smile evilly. Drop hints about "the coming revolution."
That's annoying. I dislike it when peeps read over my shoulder whether it be book or laptop. Trying just saying "yes" next time with, "we prefer the term 'Asian' now." Maybe he's just ignorant.

That and follow up with. "Maybe you can show me some of the white sites that you visit too."

I've already corrected these fools more than once on that. It doesn't help there's "Oriental" spa's everywhere down here.
It's amazing how much of the outsider I been feeling like since I been in the South. I miss Seattle... :frown: I miss Paldoworld.

i was reading asianweek.com (http://asianweek.com) and i got "how come there's no whiteweek.com?"
so i said that i would be perfectly happy to see a whiteweek.com that is not racist.

How about FrontPageMag.com? They're a fine online publication for white people:)

I just tell the pasties (my white pals) that I'm just the scout. The rest of the yellow army will be here next week.

Asianweek caters to a niche segment of the population, whereas an analogous "whiteweek.com" would have a smattering of demographics. He's plenty welcome to start a whiteweek.com, but good luck generating revenue.
For these people the logic follows that since there is no white counterpart, the racially-focused item is a form of reverse racism or double standard. I don't think they quite realize that pretty much EVERYTHING is inherently aimed at the majority, which happens to be white.

hehheh yeah
but the difference between frontpage.com and something like whiteweek.com is that whiteweek.com would specifically mention white people by race as something to cater to.

A lotta times you guys talk as if white people are like a whole different species or sumthin, hehehe. I am sure that most (if not all) of us have white friends and many have dated whites before, and you just hafta come to terms that there will be things they will never understand out of ignorance or misinformation, and that you cannot expect them to know exactly where you are coming from, just as how you as an Asian (American or not) will never know exactly where they are coming from. Just as how they do not know what it is like (or they cannot even come to terms to accept or admit or whatever) to be institutionally oppressed, we will never know what it is like to grow up in a society that blames all racism on ourselves despite white privilege. Lotta times (with white people) you will have to learn how to learn to agree to disagree. Sometimes my white hickish roommate will ask me about my Asian girlfriends or whatever and ask me to hook him up with a date and make chopstick jokes once in a while, but he also makes fun of his country-boy lifestyle and constantly makes references to his life in the trailer-park. This hick is also the guy that I exchange most of my jokes with at 2 am in the morning because everyone else is too tired to laugh.
I am not saying that ignorance is not a problem, but sometimes you just gotta understand where people are coming from. And judging from the upbringing that many whites (much like the close-minded FOBs a lot of us like to ridicule) go through, it is better that we approach the problem of ignorance with understanding rather than all-out animosity. It is a cliche statement but most if not all Asian Americans really do have the privilege of 'enjoying', so to speak, both American culture and their respective Asian culture(s). There is a downside to this dealing with identity problems, problems with American society and oppression and discimination, etc. but a part of it is also really badass, in my opinion :P

In my experience Asian-Americans make more FOB jokes than anybody else I know.

no you're not. you offended me, and now the anger within me is rising to the occasion, but not to the same effect as Girls Gone Wild. ;) <---- this smiley always bothers me b/c it never really looks like a *wink* it looks more like he's under distress because some giant insect flew into his eye.
