What is your opinion's on the new SAT's?

Basically they removed the anology section, added a written essay section and made the math section even harder.

Any opinions? I have heard many varying opinions.

I don't have a stand on the issue. where do you stand? Do you believe it was designed to lower the scores of the Asian population by adding a essay section to level the playing field? Like I said, I have no opinion on the matter, since it's been ages since I took the SAT's. But it seems like getting into college for you young'uns are harder than it was for me.

Well, i did really poorly on my SAT's. If ppl use SAT's to judge ones ppl's IQ.. well than i'm really totally fucking stupid with hardly any intelligence at all... Cuz while ppl can say that they got an 800 in verbal.. thats an even higher score than my score combined in total.

i dunno... i just hate the SAT's all together. And well, I only applied to State Schools, and than one single sex college... So, its not as if I applied to Harvard and what not... And well, I got accepted based on my art portfolio, recommendations from my professors, my interview, clubs/organizations i participated in.. and perhaps my essay i wrote on my applications. And in retrospect, my SAT scores had little relevance on my acceptance.. cuz if that was the case.. i wouldnt have gotten accepted to any schools at all...

why would they remove the analogy section?????

and to answer the question posed by chasiubao, i do think it would greatly disadvantage asians--not only asian immigrants but asian kids who were raised here as well. i was born here, but i still feel like a fob at times. many of our parents don't speak English to us at home and our vocabulary is sometimes just not as sophisticated as the white kids as a result.

do i think the sat's were deliberately changed to disadvantage asians? i don't know--do you?

I don't know. To keep things in perspective they did make the math section harder.

hmm the writing would proly disadvantage immigrants but the math may ADVANTAGE them...cuz i know a few who do way WAY better in math than in Verbal (one of my friends did something like 410 in verbal and 740 in math). Here's my take on it; for people who are good in math (i.e., anyone trained in another country or with hardcore immigrant parents--forgive the stereotyping), the math is STILL gonna be a joke just as it's a joke for them now. Then again, it depends on what kind of math gets harder--if it's word problems, then it may slow down ppl not very familiar w/ English. If it's just analytical or based on knowledge though, then people raised in our joke-of-an-educational-system are screwed compared to ppl raised in other educational systems (or by hardcore parents). For the verbal, it may be harder, but it kinda makes sense since they added a writing section to the PSAT way back (i was in the first year that took the new PSAT), so ppl who take the PSAT will have some practice for the SAT. Plus writing skills are important so they should be tested, although if they're gonna test it on the SAT I, they might as well get rid of the SAT II Writing.

awww SHIT i think that SUCKS cuz i need to take the SATs again this coming year. my score was bad enough before but i shudder to think of how much worse itll be with these changes.
i dont think they should throw out the sat II writing tho...cuz in that section u also have sentence structure and story questions -- its not solely based on writing an essay. the prompt for it is easy anyway.
