I'm overpacking. Someone tell me I don't need half the crap I'm packing. I need to establish a hierarchy.

whats on your list of stuff to pack, i cant stand it when my girl overpacks. she never uses 75% of the stuff and i end up lugging it all. i'm the master of light travel. went to europe for 3 months with just a small rucksack.

they have drug stores in asia. so if you're staying there for a prolonged period of time, maybe you can buy some of the items there.
actually, i say just bring enough for a week - and go shopping for the rest. :) bring an empty suitcase so you won't have to buy a new one.

i have this friend that travels with just a passport and the cloths on her back
she lands, goes to the nearest thrift shop, buys some stuff and gives it back before she leave again. oh, and thats her full time job, since she received her inheritance. full time 1st class traveling bum of the earth.

yes! ... i'll leave my soap behind then. Besides, I think all the drug store receipts are also like lottery tickets. I'll pack just a couple of shirts and buy some more there.

If u define packing as simply taking what you need, then it's not a problem. But if you are talking about clean, organized, good packing then I'm not so hot. I remember packing for camp when I was little, my mom prepared everything in one big suitcase for me and I always returned home with five Hefty bags stuffed with unfolded clothes. Ditto gift-wrapping, another case in which my mother's expertise must skip a generation. I usually just take a gigantic piece of wrapping paper and then just try to totally smother and cover the gift item and then I just tape all the loose ends together and hopefully at the end it won't look like a total piece of mutant petrified colored metal.

it's better to overpack than underpack.
that's what i say.
and always bring an extra luggage
you know... for all those things you bought when you went shopping.

And duct tape. Bring duct tape. Duct tape is the number one single (redundant??) best invention for piss-poor packers like me.

I always seem to overpack. I like having a choice of what to wear.

Season traveler here. So I never overpack. I always end up going shopping somewhere so I need room in my suitcase. :)

i moved to HK with one suitcase.
Personal care items are actually quite expensive in HK. If you're staying in a hotel, just use their stuff. Clothing is cheap but it's kinda cold in HK right now, a bit warmer in Taiwan. Leave the tank tops and shorts at home. Unless you're obviously white, I doubt you can get away with it without weird looks and harassment. :)

*lol* :)
yeeeeeeeeah, I am obviously a whitey but I've been to Japan and Taiwan a few times already and I'm Asian enough to know you don't where shorts and tank tops like you can in the US.
I'm going to take my really big suitcase and my smaller carry on. Then make my husband take the middle size one. The big one is full of stuff I need to take over to my friends' families... so that should leave plenty of room for goodies returning home.
hmmm... duct tape. *rubs chin*
edit: *doh* Mr. HH is sticking his undies in his laptop case.
