What're your plans for the summer? I remember we had a thread on this somewhere earlier, but I went through the 6 pages here, in Food and Travel, and couldn't find it.

June 21- 28. The first week of Summer 2003.

Folks, that's the place. Kamaole Beach Club, in Maui. Not a hotel. A condo. That means it doesn't matter how loud ya are, cus hotel management can't come banging at your door. Pfft. There were other timeshare places, but that's the one my parents got me. Originally I had a place in Kauai, but they're having construction during the summer and my mom thought it'd be too disruptive. This was the only replacement my mom could find.

I know I should be grateful that they're giving this to me as a graduation trip, but I still have things I'd like to bitch and complain about. Why couldn't I choose where my trip was to be? I haven't been to Japan since 1995, for God's sake. Narf. Where are you going?

For a short stint, I'll be heading to Africa - Uganda and South Africa - to work on an AIDs medical anthropological study and to set-up an outreach program for AIDs victims. Research renewal grant still pending so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

South Africa will be fine. Hotels. Urbanism. Uganda, on the other hand, is wood shacks, dirt floor, and drawing water from the village well. Ugh. Not to mention, I gotta get my 20 billion shots. Malaria and all. Yay for cholera!

and iris...uhhh...why YES :D of course id love to get acquainted with the insects. dont mind me if i freak out and faint...just drag me over to some shade and gimme a minute or two to regain consciousness

you might not regain consciousness if you get bitten by some of the mosquitos in Africa.

my summer plan is to go to taiwan and make one last ditch attempt at learning Mandarin before I enter the workforce. this presumes I find another part-time job here on campus and save up the required funds.

OGG to HNL -> June 28
HNL to SFO -> July 2

That's my plan. When I searched Orbitz, the cheapest tickets I could find were $602.

What other costs do you think I'd need to take into consideration? How much do you think I'd end up spending?

Aw, I envy.
My friends and I are taking a roadtrip in the summer. We're gonna go camping, and get drunk in the woods. What I'm really looking forward to though is all the skinny dipping we're gonna be doing at night. I haven't skinny dipped in a long time, and it was great. Anyway, I can't wait. When I'm with my friends for a long time, I completely unwind.

but, like last summer, i'm assuming most of these will fall through for one reason or another and i'll end up just doing summer school or doing nothing at all. maybe working at blockbuster. i dunno.

I don't like flakiness. If you're flaky or wishy-washy, you're un-invited. I won't stand to think that A, B and C are going, then at the last minutes, they're not. I'm not down with that. I don't want to get excited that blank people are going, then be really disappointed because they flaked on me. That's bullshit. It's either a yes or no.

wow you guys are planning WAY ahead...

well, as for me, extremely boring summer as usual. i didn't even go anywhere after i graduated fr hs, but after college i did go back to china for the first time since i'd left 8).

So now this summer my uncle and aunt fr Shanghai may come over here to visit, if they can get a b-visa, which is a BITCH because the INS for some reason is paranoid that all tourists come here to stay, so they don't grant visas easy. :(

So I'll probably show them around NY, maybe go back to Chicago if i can get my thesis done and they can attend the graduation ceremony.

otherwise, well...if any of you fine ladies are coming over to NY, i'll be your stalker for hire for the day. :)

Working, of course. Got a business trip to San Diego, then possibly Mexico and Florida for SCUBA. A friend and I share the same birthday -- coming up in a couple of months. We're gonna enroll in a motorcycle course, so maybe I'll have a motorcycle this summer.

And then on top of that, more work.
