The problem is they got a guy that can pretty much bag any chick. Get an average looking Joe would be more interesting. A guy with $19k/yr salary and good looks for any chance of long-term (husband material), she'll look for his aspiration in life.
He looks pretty average looking to me.

The butler is gonna get sloppy seconds
You know what is so incredibly stupid about this show? Fox is capitalizing on the fact that all these women will turn out to be "gold diggers" and ditch this guy. Well most of these women probably aren't going to drop him because he doesn't have money, they're going to kick his ass because he lied and played them like fools. No women ever wants to look like an imbecile and the moment a guy -who supposedly cares for them- does this, they'll leave him.
If they stay, it's only because they realize they're going to look like gold diggers if they leave and they're going to resent him for it. They'll spend the rest of their lives making his hell. It's a catch-22 for the women. They can't leave and they don't want to stay.
True love doesn't exist on a lie and isn't based on one either, especially a fib as big as this one. Money may matter to many women, but trust and basic respect matter more. Money may not even be an important factor in deciding whether to date a guy or not, but it does define his life-style and way of thinking. If suddenly a man told you he's a millionaire and then it turns out he's not, he's a complete stranger in a way. Even if he didn't lie about "everything else" as Fox says, I'd still wonder what else he lied about and doubt every word that came out of his mouth. Way to base a new and "loving" relationship on suspicion and anger.
Fox is being a jerk for thinking this is "entertainment." Either way, the women lose. Despite that, it's dumb of them to go on a show to compete like rabid morons over one man. It elevates the value of a man above a woman and perpetuates an unegalitarian concept. Stupid Fox. If it weren't for the Simpsons, I'd leave you.

Let's forget that it's a show and imagine it's real life. You have two choices. Choice one is Erwin (?) which makes $19,000/yr not lying about being rich. Choice two is Jim which looks just as good, but the $50 million is true. You cannot tell me women is not going to choose Jim over Erwin. Case close.
well, if they have exactly identical personalities, then perhaps you are right.
there are some women that don't care that much about money as to go into a relationship for it, because some women are pretty rich themselves.
We can't tell which one a woman will choose. Maybe a woman loves Erwin and goes for him over Jim. However, the majority will go with Jim. Now substitute it for Louise and Jennifer and try it with men. It's the same outcome. It's human nature. But they don't do a show with it starring a women with men chasing after her and call it "fun." They can't ever do it again now that the secret is out so no "Jane Millionaire" for the public.
Every gender has it's flaws. We just aren't expected exploit it for entertainment value. If Louise and Jennifer are both equally wealthy and equally "good", but Louise is ugly and Jennifer is beautiful, which one will the majority of men choose?

I'd go with either:
1) Louise: Ugly rich chick. Won't cheat on me when we're married. Nice stable income for me.
2) Jennifer: Fly rich chick. Prolly will cheat on me when we're married. CHA-CHING nice alimony check each month.

No. There's no contract.
They signed a standard release agreement to appear on a show called "Joe Millionaire" where the male is worth a sum of money so that he can be defined as a "millionaire." I don't know what the legal ramifications are.
I already have less pity for them because they're appearing on a show called "Joe Millionaire," to find true "love." I'm just bitter because I think the concept behind the show degrades the women gender as a whole.

iris,
At least I am going to admit it. Of course the guy will go for the beautiful one. I understand why women would have a problem with Erwin, because being ambition is a character of a person. Amount of money a person has equates power and power is attractive feature of a man for women. Erwin though good looking and probably with a great personality has a major turn-off - unambitious life.
"At least"? You just said that a major factor of attraction for women is ambition. Therefore, another reason why some women would not go for Erwin. And I already said the majority would probably go for Jim. While men choose women for procreation (i.e. health and looks), women choose by survival and protection of the children (i.e. financial security and looks). But this is a hypothetical game we're playing and beyond the point. Who cares about those women, they put themselves in the line of fire. At the same time, FOX as a national television show should have some concientious programming, but hey what are we asking of a network that came up with Fox Sports and their oh so lovely cast of anchors.

i know that woman. the guy kidnapped her and held her hostage for years. it was rape because she didn't really consent. he claimed to be a witch-doctor and threatened to kill her family.
there have been other cases, though, where women have sued for rape, claiming that there was really no consent b/c the guy lied about loving her  those didn't work... i think lying about having money would be more like lying about loving the girl. it wouldn't really be like putting her under duress. it would be more like giving her a false incentive to sleep with them.
also, with joe millionaire, wouldn't it be possible for him to eventually become a millionaire now that he's a star in his own show on FOX? he most likely would be making more than $19K after this, right?

I think the guy - Evan is his name (not Erwin) - can get acting jobs, TV appearances, or modelling work. Joe Millionaire is a set up, but - for real - the girls are being taken for a ride. Some of Evan's comments felt to me scripted. I don't believe Evan is telling us the truth about himself. He must be an aspiring actor or currently a model.
I'm with you on that one. Though I find it entertaining I don't believe it isn't scripted. I think everyone on the show was 'aspiring' for some sort of acting or modeling gig. Not much more than a resume builder.
That guy, Evan, reminds me exactly of Kronk from The Emporer's New Groove. He's not very good looking.

They friggen played "suspense" music when one of the girls asked for his MIDDLE NAME, and he made this big deal about how he had to "think on his feet."
I had thought this show was out to just bash women, but apparently the sheer stupidity of one man alone evens things up.

Cinderella was oppressed by other women and certainly was constrained to a life of misery. It was true love. It was a fairy tale. These women aren't being oppressed. They have every opportunity to be successful. Love... err, right. No way near close.

From the pool, it's apparent he had a say in what kind of women he wanted to choose from. Personally, I think the one black woman who was quickly cut out was a race he didn't want, and that FOX had to put in as a token. There were no apparent latinas, and the 3 Asians are disproportionate to the general American population. Take this as a guess or fact, but supposing he had a say in the pool, does this change your mind?

I had a discussion with Meena regarding this and I initially felt the same way. In further thinking, the lie was a neccessity to keep the show going, plus he probably was bound by contract not to reveal the lie until the end. With that in mind, is the lie as bad?

]HEY HEY HEY NO SPOILERS
DO NOT READ THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS
Is this supposed to make me NOT want to read it?
Err... no... that's where the "if" comes in.
If you really don't want to read it, and don't have the willpower to prevent yourself from reading it, tell me where you live and I'll make you. =P

Sorry... just wanted to make sure whoever didn't want the spoilers saw that before the spoiler. Not really shouting at Saiko. In retrospect, I should have put it in some funky colors.
yeah... it was the "color" of the font.

Regarding spoilers, I almost always enjoy a movie the second time I watch it b/c then I don't hafta worry about following the plot and wondering what's going on. My comprehension is terrible due to ADD (never officially diagnosed but I have suspicions) but the 2nd time around I have an idea of all the cool parts so I get to writhe in my seat with anticipation before those scenes.

okay. and he probably doesn't "really care" about her.
if he "really cared" about her, i'm sure he would've told her,
contract or not, beforehand.

the first time i watch a movie... it's always for the plot.
the second time around i pay closer attention to the script.
and the third time i watch it to scrutinize the acting.

What are you talking about? Most of 'em had decent flotation devices. Prolly a show requirement. I wasn't exactly shocked about the whole "I choose you Pikachu!" er... I mean "Zora-chu!" Their script was treacly and they were horrible actors. Almost like they were reading from cue cards.
But I think Sarah's reaction was for real. Man, what a brush-off.
Kronk/Evan: "What I'm trying to express is, thanks for the (slurp) (slurp) (gulp) in the bushes outside the estate one night. Hope the door doesn't hit your booty as hard as I did on your way out."
