I'm just wondering if it varies geographically and how much so...
So what is usually played at events in your area?
In NYC, it seems to be hip-hop and reggae most of the time
Sometimes a little bit of faster stuff (e.g. commercial house and trance) is thrown in for a few songs at a time.
In my college days, in Boston, eurodance was played most of the time. That's how I got into that kind of music. Opposite of NYC, a little hip-hop was thrown in for changes of pace. But things may have changed there as well.

Hip Hop and Techno in San Francisco
and of course New Order - Bizare Love Triangle.
Is it just San Francisco that they play that song in every single Asian Club? Or is it the Bay Area?

It's all about dirty south rap, breakbeats, hiphop. You'd be lucky to hear some trance and house

my little new england town is somewhere between the cultural orbits of NY and Boston. FOBs (e.g. Hong Kong Students Association) usually end up with some Eurodance DJ. AAs (e.g. Chinese Students Association) always wanna play lame-ass pop-hiphop. and no one plays dance remixes of Cantopop. no good breakz either. :( man I miss HK ...

Venga Boys. Fun to dance to, and fun to watch people dance to. Also, jumping up and down (as a result of me having no skills) looks credible when playing Boom Boom Boom and Kiss When The Sun Don't Shine.

I think they play that song in all of Asia too. Not too mention every single Asian wedding since the 80's.

I like DJs that mix it up and that can read the crowd and change shit up when they see that the crowd ain't feelin' what he's playing. To me, that is the essence of being a party DJ (which is altogether different than a turntablist of course).
