if you do, how did they like the experience? what are they doing now? how easy/hard is it to find a job after finishing up? how did they come to the decision to go to culinary school? was it something they've wanted to do for awhile? when did they attend? straight out of high school? after college?

A friends daughter went, liked it, and found work immediately after graduating. Food service is a LOT of work though.

yeah. a lot of my friends went to le cordon bleu in london et paris.
all of them went after they finished their undergrad. and now the
majority of them own a restaurant or a bakery in thailand.

it's a trend to open up french bistros and what not. and you're dead
on sure that you'll do well if you schooled at le cordon bleu.

i took a few classes. but never did the whole program.
it was fun though. but the academic program itself is quite
challenging i hear. a lot of rich kids go there. and then they
bitch about the /yucky/ stuff. unless you're a prima donna.

you'll be fine.

I know quite a few people that went to culinary school. One of them went straight out of highschool and now has his own restuarant. He had a little help though, his family is in the restuarant business too.

Another friend of mine, went after college and opened up a restuarant too. It's called the Red Bamboo, for any vegetarians in the NYC area, this place is pretty darn good. His family also owns the Dragonfly. Shameless plug for a friend on my part.

A third friend went and is now a Souz Chef at a prestigious Yacht Club here in Westchester.

My father went to culinary school and had his own restuarant for a while and is now the executive chef at a 5 star hotel. Cooking can be a lot of fun and you could do well with it. It's also a lot of work and their can be alot of competition out there. Good luck.

thanks for sharing pip and tawee. i ask because i'm very interested in becoming a chef one day for some ritzy high-class restaurant... :D

i can't really see myself sitting in front of a computer and programming and whatnot for the rest of my life. also, i'm not very good at it. i wouldn't mind being a chef for the rest of my life. i've wanted to do it ever since i was a little kid and i would watch those cooking shows on pbs w/my mom on sundays.

if i did go to a culinary academy, i'm thinking i'd probably go here: baychef.com (http://www.baychef.com). it's the california culinary academy in san francisco. i'm going to an open house type thing on saturday, to go check it out and see what it's all about. also, i'd have to wait another 3 1/2 years (maybe more?! ) till i finish undergrad. if i still have the drive to do it then, i'd have it under serious consideration.

if i do become a sweet-ass chef w/my own restaurants and crap, you all can have the YW special discount! and preferred seating too! :D

a family friend did it as a career change. she liked it a lot. theres a really good school in pasadena and she got really good instruction. im not quite sure how expensive it was. anyway, i think she got hired right away. theres a shortage of chefs these days, so that helped. plus the ladys got skill.

Ooh! I ate there a few years ago. It is so good. The chefs all stand out displaying what they cooked and you can talk to them and ask about the food and their recepies. The food is so good and all you can eat too. The pasties are some of the best around as well. Its a great deal too...not too expensive.
