A judge sentenced 14-year old Anna Guo to five years in a group home today. From what I understand, she has 60 days to file an appeal, and we're currently weighing our options right now.
The Justice for Anna Guo site has also been redesigned, but whoop de doo. :pissed:

5 years in a group home?
That's seriously fucked up. :pissed:
Good luck to you guys on the appeal! Do us proud.
I did not sit in her trial or read up on any psychological profiling done on Anna, but if the articles are true, then rehabilitation and psychiatric help would have been more beneficial especially since she seemed to exhibited forms of disassociative disorder and scale 5 depression according to the DSM-IV, used in abnormal psychology. A group home is not the way to re-introduce her back into society as a healthier person.

Would a group home be a place she could get psychiatric counseling?

whether the placement is appropriate is a concern, yes. however, the fact that she was convicted and her liberty now taken away for five years even though she threatened only to harm herself is what pisses me off. even if she was placed in a home/institution that offered sufficient psychiatric training, that would be insufficient.
remember, the only reason why anna was charged was to bar the civil suit against the officer who shot her.

Oh, I understand how her conviction is an injustice (you're right... I'm not sure how commiting suicide can really be a crime -- or euthanasia for that matter)... but, I just wasn't too clear on what exactly constituted a "group home"....
she won't be able to come and go as she likes? is it basically like being institutionalized?

Was she put in the group home for trying to commit suicide or for supposedly attacking the police officers?
