Just interested in knowing how long most people have been using their current email addresses. Wondering how problematic things like spam are, and if it's causing people to switch addresses, or if perhaps people are switching for other reasons.

My personal email address is the same yahoo address I've used since 1996.

1998 for me. in high school I used hotmail but it got waaaay too cluttered. I switched to this service called 020.co.uk for a while but they collapsed, then in senior year I started using Graffiti (http://www.graffiti.net/) which gives lots of free space (20MB). But also lots of pop-up windows. I have to take pretty aggressive anti-spam measures to keep the account usable, though. Like I've spent whole afternoons investigating the source of a message and calling up the company in person. Before it was worth it since I didn't have my own computer and I wanted a web-based account large enough to receive all the pictures and movies and stuff my friends liked to send me.

Relatively new I guess, since I use webmaster@yellowworld.org primarily. I'll definitely never go back to free email accounts....

I've changed e-mail address so much. I never stick to just 1, but nowanddays I use a forwarding address, so it will never change. I set the forwarding to whatever address I'm currently using. Anytime I send mail, I just set the reply to address as my forwarding address.

I've had one email account since 1997. But thats not my primary account any more and I'm tempted to get rid of it, but it's like your cell phone number, you don't wanna give it up cause all your pals know that address.

I just created a new email on Yahoo for business purposes but my first which is my AOL SN has been around since '96. Spam is still a problem despite the strongest filters on both services.

I had started the thread in "Whatever" because I thought it would get more responses since many people may not look at the "Geek World" forum. Also, I didn't consider it a geek vs. non-geek issue, since I assume all of us on this board use email.
