Got this in the email. Haven't actually tried the number myself:
The President has put out a request for feedback about war with Iraq; if you'd like to register your opinion, here's how--it's easy, and may count for something:
President Bush's White House Opinion Line: 202-456-1111. Please make a call if you have a minute.
The line only accepts calls from 9-5 EST., Monday through Friday. A machine will detain you for only a moment and then a pleasant live operator will thank you for saying "I oppose" or "I approve." It will only take minutes. Note that the weekends are closed for calls.

well, since it's legit, what's the harm in calling if you oppose the war? and if they trace you, so be it. you're going to let the fbi silence you?

hey...the president/government have powers now that are beyond any legal controls....if they say you are a war criminal, you can be locked up for who knows how long w/o the power of attorney...or worse, send me to guantanamo *sp? bay, where even though run by u.s., "not under u.s. jurisdiciton."

thank you for this, i can't wait to call. i selfishly oppose unless he can end it quickly, like before November. i feel a lil unpatriotic saying this, but i can't help it.

considering i don't trust the gov't all that much... yeah. plus it might affect my job (might be applying for security clearance soon). i already subtly constrict what i say on this board.

that seems kind of conspiratorial to me. i wouldn't worry about it like that, i mean, honestly, if you oppose it, it's just your opinion. i oppose, and i, like you, have to apply for a security clearance. i think he'd just like to hear America's honest opinion. I doubt if he would really put much weight on it, though.

but merely opposing the war won't make one a war criminal.
how's this? if any of you decide to make the call and we don't see you on yw for a while...we'll come looking.
