View Full Version : What's Wrong With Me?

How long does your period last? Mine is usually 4-5 days, every (give or take) 28 days. I don't usually have any really BIG problems with it, but for some reason, now my cycle isn't regular. Two weeks after the last period of my normal cycle, I got it again, for 4-5 days. Now, 2 weeks later, I have it again.. but it's been about 8 days since I first got it. What the hell is wrong with me? I'm scared. :(

Have no fear, Bunboy, MD is here. Heh just teasing you.

Amietron, has your lifestyle changed in the last couple of months? Like has your weight changed? Been doing strenuous activity? Your energy level changed? Mood changed? Diet changed? Are you on the pill? If you don't want to get personal over the fourm feel free to private message me.

Are you on medication? Some medication will cause residual bleeding in some women, by hindering the hormone that plays a role in the release of the egg. Hence resulting in residual bleeding.

The average menstrual cycle your right is 28 days. But it can range from 26-35 days. The bleeding lasts anywhere from 3-7 days. The menstrual cycle is divided into two phases. Phase 1 lasts anywhere from 13-20 days, it ends, but it varies from women to women. Phase 2 generally lasts 14 days for all women.

I would go consult your ob/gyn. Have a complete examination, including a thyroid exam, check your heart rate and lung capacity, check your abdomen, check the vaginal and pelvic region and breast exam. Get a blood test. The ob/gyn may also request and ultrasound of your uterus and ovaries, don't worry it's painless and a pretty routine exam.

From the symptoms you are describing, you are suffering from what they called "irregular spotting." If that is the case, you will probably go on the pill. He'll probably put you on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, thats the most popular one out right now. If you're already on the pill, you might need a higher dose. But go see an Ob/Gyn, if you don't have one, it's time to get one you can trust. This is the most important thing I have to stress.

NOo, no, no. REALLY! You DO rock! I'm chicken shit, though. I don't know about going to an ob/gyn. When I hear people talk about that stuff, it's intimidating. And, on top of other things, I'm on vacation in San Diego for the next week. Do you think it'd be okay if I waited it out until I got home?

Such supportive guys on YW. Why don't you have girlfriends?! :P

don't be scared. i'ts likely nothing if not accompanied by pain or heavy bleeding. sometimes, especially in young women (by young i'm giving great latitude and saying anywhere from teens to mid-20s), when you experience stress that happens. also, if you've been hooking up or in close proximity to a new guy in your life, that may also trigger it b/c your hormones get all out of whack.

So long as you're not experiencing pains outside of the usual menstrual cramps and the bleeding is spotty not heavy, I think you should be ok. But, I do suggest you get yourself an ob/gyn, you can trust. I know it might be traumatic the first time, but think of it this way you can now talk to your women friends about your ob/gyn experiences. And I think you might need to go on the pill to regulate your cycle, if that's the case, you would look the coolest when you can tell your friends your on the pill. Nevermind most girls your age that I know of is already on the pill, hmmmm, you can now be part of the in crowd! You'll be the coolest.

I don't have gf's. I have ex gf's and female friends that provide me "benefits." Don't need the stress and drama in my life right now.

Oh yeah forgot to add: If you are prescribed the pill make sure you mention 1)If you are lactose intolerant mention that, you will need a lactose free birth control pill 2)If you're on any other medication, mention that too, especially if you're on antibiotics.

Good luck amietron. My bill will be in the mail and you can pay me via paypal for this initial consultation. J/K!!!!! :P

Hey Amietron... I'm a newbie here so I am gonna try to give you a little bit of what I know. Maybe you have been through some type of major change in your life, possibly a lot of stress induced problems. Stress can be one thing, actual a major thing. I used to have the same problem, I never knew when the hell mine was ever coming or going. The best advice that I can prolly give you is to go see a GYN doctor (gynecologist) and they can probably shine a light on what is going on with you and your cycle. They will probably even suggest you get on birth control, sounds scary but the good thing about birth control is the fact that #1 it regulates your period and #2 certain brands like Orthotricycline actually helps clear your skin of blemishes. Look into it if you can. A lot of women actually go through this a lot more than you think, so I wouldn't worry too much. Hope this helps!

Ooh Had to edit this... Basically what Chasiubao_Boy said! You da bomb, man!

I had no choice I had to endure 3-4 months of ob/gyn rotations. Most difficult rotation by far followed by pediatrics. Heh they kinda go hand in hand. I am still traumatized by the so called "beauty of child birth." :(

What happens when you forget to take THE pill for a week, and you decide to "make up" for it by taking all of them that you missed?

I AM the "IN" crowd, dammit. B)

Your ob/gyn will instruct you. But if i recall, the longest you can miss from taking the pill is 3 days (depends on type). Longer than that you just start a new pack. If I remember the pill comes 21 and 28 day pack. You should be instructed to take it I think the first Sunday after your period begins or the first day of menstrual bleeding. Perhaps ask one of your female friends on the pill or ask the fine and knowledgable women here in YW.

I think it goes something like this:

If you miss 1 pill, take it when you remember it and take your next pill at the regular time (again depends on what type of pill you're on). Miss two pills, take the two you missed when you remember it and take the next two the next day. If you missed three, you start all over from square one. Forgot how it goes, but I think this is the gist of it. You're ob/gyn will help you, it may seem confusing at first. Hell, I'm lost and confused typing this. If you miss 1-2 days or more and is sexually active, you have to take precautions i.e. you might get pregnant.

Make sure you go over your health history. Like if you smoke, history of stroke, blood clot, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, your blood has a high lipid (fat); a good ob/gyn will go over this with you. If not, make sure you ask him/her if you are at risk for taking the pill.

Another thing is side effects of the pill:
1)Chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness
2)Vision loss, speech problems
3)Leg pain especially in calf and thigh area
4)Abdominal pain
5)Headaches

If that happens stop taking the pill and tell your ob/gyn.

Oh and I forgot vitamin C also can be the cause of your irregular spotting. Vitamin C raises estrogen levels in your blood, but you have to be taking in a shit load of vitamin C.

This the basic gist of it, if I missed something, don't blame me. I'm not an ob/gyn.

I think you just about drained everything I know about this subject. I'm tired and hungry now.

It would be too traumatic for me. Ayers might want to do it. He's a young med student that hasn't been ravaged by the hell we call R1 (first year residency). I am a bitter old man.
