Oh, im new here by the way.
Anyways, i read this on comingsoon.net, a movie news website
anyway the article's url is here: http://www.comingsoon.net/cgi-bin/archive/...040739822,70546 (http://www.comingsoon.net/cgi-bin/archive/fullnews.cgi?newsid1040739822,70546),
Hmm, i think its cool and all to cast an asian, but im a bit surprised considering she's well...asian.

^-- If you'd read the book, you'd see that the role calls for an Asian girl.

Oh, and about the link, the reason its broken is cuz of that one stupid comma at the end, see how that one comma after the link is not actually "included" well just add a comma to it if it dont work.
Hmm, im too lazy to read the books, so i wonder why JK Rowling threw in an asian girl.
I just hope she doesnt end up being pathetic like Shu Qi in The Transporter

im not sure if she will get the role, largely due to many other asian girls auditioned for the role too, although cho chang doesnt speak much in the book (big bonus for BoA), but for some reason the casting has been for british actors
im guessing an unknown will most likely get the part
off topic...
funny thing about harry potter is Ian McKellen (Gandalf from Lord of the Rings) is going to be dumbledore...

*Shrug* But apparently Europe is very very diverse. Err... London is said to have more diversity and peaceful coexistence than most large US cities.

eh, most of the race rioting goes on in northern industrial towns. and the beatings are mutual.
straying back on topic, as for BoA and the casting ... how good is her English anyway? I've only heard her actually speak in Japanese before (though of course i heard her songs in all three languages Korean, Japanese, and English) ...

You know what's funny is that it's so much easier to sound proper and fluent when you're in the middle of song. Also when I was younger I noticed that I could not always detect the accents of British bands, groups, or singers, or maybe I'm just lame. Anyways, I think that in a sense, English (and every other language) is a lot easier to speak when you're in the middle of a melody because you already have a melody to follow and you don't have to worry about tone, variations in speed and stress, style of talk, etc (IMHO all of which are much harder to grasp than pronunciation when you're learning a new language).
YOU STILL MAH NUMBAH ONNNNE!!! ^^ :P
*Dude, psst, she's 16, get over it*

Hmm the thing about her english though is they probly WANT her to speak soso english as opposed to perfect english.
My guess is she's fluent but still got an accent

oh just remembered something
i heard that JK Rowling wanted a all british cast....
i think it has to do with her contract or something
plus if i remember correctly from the book, Cho Chang doesnt speak much maybe a line or two...
off topic:
and rumors of BoA in the Initial D movie

Isn't Cho Chang around 13/14 and her age should LOOK somewhat like her crew. Boa looks like she's 20! Did they have auditions for Cho here in LA too?

Since so many people are having problem with the link ... article full text. If you don't care about words and just want some pictures, go here (http://www.yo.rim.or.jp/~nhkj25t/boa.htm) (it's a discography page).
MuggleNet reports that 16-year old Korean singer Kwon BoA may be up for the role of Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Chang is the Ravenclaw seeker who Harry has a crush on. Here's a quote from Seventeen Indonesia...
It happened when BoA visited London to sing with internationally famous boyband, Westlife, for their newest album, "Unbreakable: The Greatest Hits". In London, she got a request to play as Cho Chang in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".
Some pictures of the singer can be found here. Thanks to 'chronomagex' for the heads up.

Oh yeah, again about the link, its broken cuz that one last comma isnt "included" in the link, if you look at my link theres a comma after it thats regular text not hyperlink, so just add the comma if it dont work
Hmm, to those who the read the books is Cho Chang a chinese or korean character? Or simply generic asian?

yes, anime with cars
i've heard some people in Hong Kong wanted to produce a movie on it, starring Andy Lau and BoA.......but then its only a rumor
now i think it wouldnt happen largely due to the language factor.....usless HK decides to drop a surprise and make the movie in Japanese

hmm, I don't think the Japanese thing would be that much of a problem. HKers love movies featuring Japanese stars, even if a big portion of the dialogue is in Japanese and has to be subtitled for them. e.g. Full Time Killer, Tokyo Raiders, Jue Shi Hao BRA (can't remember the english title ... the Louis Koo one where those two guys gotta design a bra).
though, maybe Andy Lau would be embarassed to do a movie with another non-Japanese whose Japanese is still way better than his. his accent gets on my nerves sometimes.

sorry my explanation was bad
rumors were the hong kong directors were going to make a chinese movie with Andy Lau and BoA for Initial D
now im hoping for it to be in japanese instead
because i dont think BoA can speak chinese and since Andy Lau can speak Japanese (not well but i think its better than BoA's chinese)....and since being based on a very popular Japanese anime series........Hong Kong might be willing to do Japanese in the reasons you have said.....
but these are just rumors.....no finalised information released about it...... for all i know there might not even be a initial D movie.....
oh recently in Hong Kong they did a full english movie (maybe 1 line of chinese in there somewhere) called Naked Weapon (no not porn, just maybe 2 seconds of Maggie Q nipple thats it)
