>> my brother is the one purchasing my car for me...we're going to have to share the car for a while so we have to get something we both want. problem is all i want is a 240sx and he doesnt...he's edging towards honda which would probably be the death of me. now i know beggers cant be choosers but CMON HERE....its not like its a real expensive car shoot. he says they're flimsy...can someone give me some stats on the car to help me prove to him that its a damn good car?!

well i asked one of my good friends, paul, for info and heres what he said: (hes my car info guy)
+they stopped making those in the uSa
+last year was the 97 or 96
+they have it GT version in japan rite now
+ but in japan its called the "silvia" not the 240
+ its like a civic in a way
+ 2 door and has limited engine mods
+ can be upgraded to become a probbly 9-10 SEC 1/4mile
+ mostly for show
+ unless you get the 2002 GT version
+ he doesnt recommend getting one cuz "its not that great of a car to fix up"
+ inline 4 cylinder
+ DOHC (duel over head cam)

hey princess, your buddy paul is a little contradicting since he says you can fix up the 240 and hit 9-10sec quarter miles, and you can get 270hp easily, yet at the same time it's not a good car to fix up?

Karizma: GET A CIVIC. it has almost 100hp to the wheels and it has a lot of engine mods, like billet radiator caps, rims, glow in the dark gauges and Honda symbols, stickers, tons of stickers, 100% guaranteed to buzz exhaust systems, cheap $2.00 clear rears, blue lighted spray nozzles, damn the list goes on.
The choice is clear. go CIBIK!

His info is wrong 240sx. heres the right info from me who has the car and has it turboed.
-made from 1989-98 in japan for the us market, based on the domestic Silvia and 180sx models.
-the version in japan is called the silvia currently (180sx was produced from 88-98, and Sil80 96.5 only) it stopped production of the current S15 model in6/2002 it sales were very high but new S16 chassis is about to be produced.
- theres no GT version the higher models of Silvia 88-98 are called K's or kings model, the lower are called J's or Q's ie jacks or queens. 98.5-02 model of s15 silvia uses Spec-S Normally aspirated, Spec-R turbo model, Autech SR20VE NA 200hp high rev direct injected 2.0 version. 180sx models are TYPE S and TYPE X turbo model.
- its a sports car unlike civic which is an economy car since its RWD and classes w/ sports coupes and will spin at highspeed since its RWD. But its like a civic in japan a common car for enthusiasts. tis the #1 selling enthusiast car and is pretty much a dime a dozen in japan.
-for KA24de american model engine theres limited engine mods, other then turbo, headers, cams, NOS, etc...as limited as a preludes would be.
-9-10sec 1/4 mi? yeh w/ like 10k in engine mods. most stock ka24de 240sx go 1/4 in 15.5-16 sec. Stock silvia s13 in mid 14's and S14-s15 in high 13's to low 14's. to make a 10 sec silvia u need lotsa money an patience. the cars more of a handling car and even sy's MR2 will run circles around it in stock KA24de engine....atleast the cars big and u can hit him and make his deathtrap explode
-its a great car fixed up, because its reliable and has very high quality modfications only. If hez a cheap honda boy its not a good car cuz a body kit for a 240sx cost between 1200-2000$ versus his 150$ wholesale and the 450$ he normally paid for it. its cost basically 2-3x as much to fix up but can produce if SRswaped or Turbo a drivable 12 second 1/4 mile car that can exceed the skill of poor drivers because of its suspension set up.
- it has a 2.4 L inline 4 in america 2 types SOHC or DOHC single or dual cam versions 89-90 are single cam, 91-98 are dual. engines sourced from nissan hardbody/ frontier truck and is pretty much indestructable and gives good towing power and fuel economy, the stock engine is anehemic at high RPM but makes good low end and mid range power 0-4500rpm is its typical happy rpms's =X
-nismo doesnt make very many engine components its a factory owned accesory store. But they did make a 270hp version silvia called the 270R all they did was increase turbo boost of the stock silvia k's to 12psi and put a bodykit and wheels on. Nismo does make sum components but basically rebrands other manufactures units the injectors and head gaskets are made by Tomei, LSD by KAAZ, etc. The SR20det motor in japanese version is easy to tune, the KA24de motor in america isnt bad either and is easy to turbocharge w/ a kit made by FMAX or NSsport.
+the chassis is Rear Wheel Drive.
+the car is safe weights bout 2700-2800lb.
+95, 95.5-96, 97-98 there are minor revesions to the emissions control system and maincomputer. mainly 95 early production door jam says made before 9/94 have unique wiring diagrams. it coresponds to the minor change between the 94 to 95 model in japan where the japanese model lost glass headlights and sum options. interior for 95 early, 95late-96, 97-98 are different
+97-98 have a different front end and have more std equipment
+base 240sx are 4 lug, and loose the rear sway bar. SE have 5 lug hubs and a rear swap bar and japanese optional front lip.
+SE model w/ ABS/LSD option is rare for 95-96, for 97-98 any w/ ABS has lsd.
+95-96 have bose system for SE std, trims are Base, SE.
+97-98 trims are base, SE, LE. SE is base model equipment wise of 95-96 but has 5 lug hubs and rear sway, LE is leather model that adds sunroof, power antenna, and bose stereo.
+the bose in all nissans is same for 91-98 till new maxima appears has 6 speakers, front componets and rear speakers and 2 amps. one for front/back. closed loop oppperation.
tell him its a safe fun car that is for girls, its target market and it was marketed as a mini-lexus SC300/400 for mid 20k.

:( i wanted a 240sx for the shear RWD factor, but no i got stuck with a civic...but if you want most hp per liter....get a RX-7 8O

will: i have no idea why you keep on calling my car a death trap. my fuel cell is completely centered in the middle of the car, leaving forced intrusion at minimal probabilty. Yours is undoubtedly under the rear seats which has more intrusion probability from a rear end car accident.
like i said before, the chassis was engineered with safety in mind contributing to the heavy 2500lbs, and this is for a compact 2 seater. What did you say? 2700lbs was safe for your vehicle? i'm not sure whether your car is big or unneccesarily bulky because those damn rear seats don't do shit.

yep netime karizma, ne question i'll either answer it on the spot or research it, but for wrenching and installation knowledge ask mraztre.
i'd like to add a few details
1. all 240sx have disk brakes, ABS is optional on 91-98 its preferable becuase the stock brakes are 10.5 inchs front which is on par w/ accord.
2. buying rims for 240 is hard it needs a low offset wheel between +35 to +0, 18x8/ 18x9 is max sizes for s13, 18x9/ 18x10 is max for s14/15

man i don't know what u guys are talking about, that cars is a very good car. There is alot for sale around where i live so u gotta tell me what u want. The only two types that look good are the 93-95 if u get that kind then u want to get an SE they come with a sunroof if u like that kind of thing, but the one i like are the 240sx fastback. Your brother will have a funner time fixing that up. Both kinds are for sale around where i live so if u need some help holla.

actually a cars thats very similar (same kit) is in america right now, its at Signal Auto USA, and it has 600hp and probs runs 9's cept its a street car. they are supposed to test it sumtime at a dragstrip.
Signal auto is off Carson St. in torrance across from Mitsuwa market plaza

personally karizma i'd get a base or Se cuz honestly base and SE has very minor difference 4 lug vs. 5 lug, no rear sway bar, crappier stereo. just get a stick one!
yeh its more fun when u fix it up w/ ur blood sweat and choices of parts

Quicky 240sx info summary
1. Cost for both turboka24de or sr20det is about the same to make the ka24de turbocharged or the sr20det swapped in
2. 240sx platform swap needs a few upgrades b4 it adds an sr20det. or ka24de + turbo the stock brakes suck and does stock fuel pump. Models are 89-90 SOHC KA24E hatch or coupe S13, 91-93 hatch or coupe KA24DE, 94 convertable automatic only, 95-96 Zenki S14before, 97-98 Kouki S14after both use KA24de. JDM models are 88.5-90.5 S13 Silvia, S13 180sx powered by CA18DET, 90.5-93 S13 silvia, 90.5-97.5 180sx minor change at 1996 to 4 taillights and different bumper and skirts, S14 zenki 1994.5-1996, s14 kouki minor change or after japan has unique front and rear bumpers and wing ECU pin out is different also 1996.5-1998, S15 add new SR20det w/ 480cc injector and inconnel turbo 1998.5-2002. 7/02 end production of silvia.
3. 2 things to avoid if ur gonna do a swap Super Hicas on 91-93 hatch SE model and Autotranny on all.
4. 89-90 needs modified s13 91-94 LHD pwr steering rack and s13 91-98 silvia/180sx/240sx guage cluster.
5. S14 motors no true working w/ USDM AC exists yet 1-speed A/C works tho pick ur speed. Their might be a break thru soon if project Wills wiring is correct and we can fire it up, their is one S14 digital AC in texas but thats hard core and u need 6 sensors and lotsa fun wiring to get that to work plus the digital AC controller.. U need SR compressor and lines (need to be modified) and for s13 the digital AC isnt hard to get working Ryan McDowel and others in west coast figured it out.
6. Power fold mirrors www.clearcorners.com owner mike figured out how on s13, s14 no one has to my knowledge
7. any R200 Limited Slip Differential from s13/ s14/ J30/ Z32 can work if u have the correct imputshafts 5 or 6 bolt. Differential for j30 swap on Non ABS s14 may need to be shortened ur mileage may vary.
8. For s13 hatchs 180sx tail lights bolt on courtesy nissan or clearcorners.com have them in stock. mild rewiring needed.
9. www.freshalloy.com , www. zilvia.net, www.240sx.org , etc are all excellent non buisness places to start learning at.
