Do you go to buffet? What do you eat? Any favorite place? In general I like Todai (the restaurant, not the university) but the best buffet I go to is Hotel Del Coronado. Absolutely mouth watering. They had a mountain of crab and lobster.

What about things like cake tabehodai?

Where's todai? Don't suppose its anywhere near Chicago?

All this area has are the greasy Asian buffets :gross: and Old Country/Shooters chains.

I love buffets cuz I get to try everything, but my (guy) friends always complain that I don't "eat my moneys worth". Went to a seafood one (pricey though) and loved it.

Don't really like buffets.

But I do hop over to "East" on Main Street, Flushing, if I'm in the neighborhood hanging out. They have a good variety of dishes (sushi, sashimi, kal bib, bul golgi, snow crab legs, every Chinese stir fry you can think of etc etc etc.)

I'm not too fond of coming down with the "itis" after we stuff ourselves.

My friend had a craving for Old Country Buffet a couple weeks ago, so we drove 40 minutes to go to the closest one...40 MINUTES to eat all you can eat medicore food. Stupid craving.

Your in luck. They just opened one on Friday the 20th of December. 25 dollars for dinner per person and 15 is for lunch.

Its at Wood Field mall in Shaumburg.

Ill be up there this Friday with a couple of my Azn buddies.

I got seriously ill last time I ate at Todai...in Pleasanton. I broke out in hives. No stomach problems luckily. Caused me to go on a 3 AM run to freaking 7-Eleven to buy overpriced Benedryl, which I let expire...stupid Todai. That wouldn't stop me from going again...it was good while I was there. :)

I hate Todai. The one time I went there, this obese black family was sitting in front of me, shoving food down their throats. Watching them made me want to barf. There were bits and pieces of food scattered all over the ground around their table. It was disgusting. They didn't even watch their kids. Eat with your damned fork. Don't shovel the food in your mouth with your freaking hand. You're not a dog, you have hands. Stop eating like a barbarian. Ugh.

After my one bad experience at Todai, in Orange, CA, I've come to really dislike buffets.

Do you say "boo-fay" or "buf-fay"?

"Buf-fay"...although my Asian friends tend to say "Boo-fay".

Of course there are those calling them "Buff-ett" of "Buf-fett" (on the Food Network some British dude). Love the Food Network.....

Is Todai really that bad, I kinda wanted to try it. But I always get queasy from eating the oily Asian buffets....

Hmm any Chicagoans heard of Chi Tung Chinese restaurant # 1 and # 2
they were my father's and at one time #1 (I think) was the #7 restaurant overall in the Chacago area as judged by James Ward
but hey
they were full serve restaurants that also had buffet lines for lunch and dinner
i dunno what's happened to #2
but #1 has been under new manage ment for a while and has been rebuilt as a new multimillion dollar facilities that does chinese, thai, has a sushi bar, and a lounge/bar
i saw it recently and it's kick ass
go there and tell them that George Shih's son sent you
but yeah
i have a question for everyone when did the first Chinese/Asian buffet appear in the U.S. cause if I'm not mistaken my father may have been a pioneer in the area
he was 60 something by the time he died in 2000 so who knows
I need to find out when he opened his first full-serve/buffet but i'll get back to you guys on this
