Then again I'm not a first-semester freshman anymore, so me bragging about my hs achievements would just be very very sad.

Anyway, I'm going to go into self-pity/bragging/advice mode now.

I came into Penn as one of under 1% chosen to be "University Scholars," I had a 1550 SAT, I was a National AP Scholar with 8 1/2 5's under my belt (4 AB subscore, 5 BC score), perfect PSAT score. I got a 5 on the bio AP in my senior year, when the last bio class I had taken was regular bio in 9th grade.
So does that make me smart? Think again.

...slacked off in college and grad school.


Guess what I do now. While my classmates are pulling in 60 k, 50 k a year, I'm pulling in 30 k w/o medical or pension benefits. My friend at Starbucks has health insurance and I don't.

So all that means is hs scores don't count for shit. it's always the followup that matters. When you've run 90 li, you're only halfway done, as the Chinese saying goes.

caveat for the AP scores; our school's APs were flooded so maybe i got some pity scores, but I think I still woulda made National AP scholar. ;)

as for sucktastic grades, my freshman year, i got a wonderful 1.3 my first qtr. why? my hopefully soon-dead [i DID say hopefully] mom was trying to hit me up for cash, and trying to get back into my life [to try and get more money and continue my slave-like servitude to her, ESPECIALLY after she tried to kill me] after me throwing my old life away, including her stupid ass. at least it was more evidence for my independence case for financial aid.

and all i did with the actual "problems" [my mom not included] i sucked it up and moved on. thanks to my wonderful fianceé whom i met and engaged soon after we were together, i have made it this far.

my advice, get out, get a hobby that makes you unwind (go to a shooting range, get laid, whatever it takes to bring your mind to calmness [including lying to yourself, as i've done repeatedly since i was 9] and you'll feel better.
