we've talked about this years ago, but it's been a while.
how do you ladies feel when you hear someone using the word cunt - usually in a deratory manner. actually, i can't imagine any polite, non-deragatory manner the word can be used.
but, assuming that it isn't directed toward you, or even women for that matter, do you, like me, feel unease when you hear it? does it still feel like a slap in the face? or do you accept it just as everyday profanity?

The usage of the word 'cunt' I think can definitely be taken as an offensive term if used in the wrong context.
If some dude was to call someone a 'dick', it would be taken as an offensive insult, BUT if a dude was to describe the size of his organ referring to it as a 'dick' as inflated expression of manhood to the other guys (bad example I know), then it can be taken as everyday slang.
I'm setting myself up to get flamed by all the women on this site I know it. . . . .
Anyway,
Calling someone a 'cunt' is the same as calling some one a 'pussy' as an insult, but if the word was used in place the usual words to define female genitalia then it would be taken as regular foul speech.

^cc, i hate to backseat mod, but kasia specifically mentioned that she wanted ladies commenting on this. if u really feel like commenting, at least give the women a few days to comment by themselves w/o male interference before u post. just fyi since this has been an issue in the past (i've also been guilty of it).

^-- Understood. I wasn't aware of that particular specific in the OP. If I dont get any reponses to my posts made so far then I am done with this discussion from here forward...

I don't like the term. =) Simple as that. I don't like it because I associate it with weakness/arrogance, but usually it's to name call someone into a lower status. Maybe one day, women can reclaim it and use it as an endearing term to refer each other, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. =) Nor would I want it to happen anytime soon.... =P

I might be in the minority, but while I wouldn't want to be called a cunt, I do use the word. Very infrequently, and for humorous effect. It's just so vulgar and has a lot of shock value. Same with twat, to a lesser degree.
Edit: rereading the original post, I guess I fall into the "everyday profanity" category, but with more of an edge.

I mulled over what I said earlier but deleted. Earlier all I said is that I'm desensitized to the word at this point. Note I consider the word vulgar because, well, it is vulgar but I would also feel "everyday profanity" about it. However... what I want to add now is that I wonder if my so-what attitude leads to making men feel more permissive about it. While I don't care about the word used against my person I feel uncomfortable(?) if my attitude lead to more men using it when it probably shouldn't be. I mean, I used to be pretty upset by it. But I got so much "fucking cunt" "suck dicks" "you like what you see?" "fucking dikes" "stuck up bitch" you can only care so much until you don't.
Ah, maybe here's a different way to put it. I better never hear that come out of my son's mouth. My husband uses the acronym See You Next Tuesday.
But I got so much "fucking cunt" "suck dicks" "you like what you see?" "fucking dikes" "stuck up bitch" you can only care so much until you don't.
my dear lady, WHERE do you spend your leisure time??
as for me, i hardly ever hear this word used. personally, it would be akin to a slap in the face. however, i've felt this way about "bitch" too, but it's become part of my everyday vocab so i have become desensitized to it. for some reason, i just find the word "cunt" to be extra demeaning and a low-blow, so to speak.
