View Full Version : Foods you like that Whites may think is gross

So here it is. the mother of all food stereotypes.

There is a saying, if it moves you can eat it. Or you can eat anything with four legs.

Are these real Chinese sayings or made up by the white man.

Idiot friends of mine used to bug me about eating cats and dogs and once saw some dimsum chickenfeet.

Anyways i got the one guy back because he is slavic and he had a pig's head in his freezer and i bugged him about that still.

what are some foods you eat that could be considered foreign but you like?

What's with all the animal organs the Chinese believe are medicines and tonics?

Anyone believe this stuff? does it work? or is it archaic old fashioned tradition?

I do like some different foods, i don't mind tripe. In fact, i might try anything if it is prepared right and looks tasty.

I cant say i've tried cat or dog tho. not knowingly.

I like liver, depending on how it's prepared?

I drink the Chinese "Cool" Tea stuff, never really had it as a kid, so I wasn't all "EWW, Gross, bitter" as the rest of my ABC friends who wanted coke all the time.

haha, good list. i'm not so much of an intestine guy but i do like preserved duck egg in my congee.

some white people really think it's a hundred years old.

I said it's not really a hundred, just a few weeks.

the guy goes, "close enough" LOL

oh, and i had chicken hearts/gizzards before. People are reallyfreaked out about the hearts.

to me its just a piece of meat, a muscle.

Curry goat meat stewed with potatoes, very popular in Indian cooking. With roti on the side. Good stuff.

Tried Curry armadillo once . Too bony. No meat.

Steamed snails, no substance to it, difficult to eat.

Did I say my stepfather used to cook cow's brains with scrambled eggs?

Chitlins, (pork intestines) cooked southern style, flavored with bacon with collard greens and mac n' cheese on the side.

Pigs feet. Dont care how its cooked as long as its fully cooked.

Oxtail stewed, Carribean style, Puerto Rican style or Dominican style.

Cooked Octupus and mussels ,scallops, and stuff Chinese style in soup or fried.

Tried raw clams with Jamacian hot sauce. Sucks.

Cow tripe, cooked Indian, Carribean, Chinese or Indian style. Love the stuff!!!

Still cant stand chicken feet. Yeech.

Chicken gizzards or hearts, fried with LOTS of hot sauce and a six pack of beer on the side.

Could'nt get to trying eel after getting freaked out over a eel girl shock site I found by accident. (It's worse then the tub girl shock site)

is the fermented tofu the spicy stuff in a jar in cubes that's like rotten cheese goo? that's actually not bad in a cheesy kind of way.

Maybe if someone cooks chicken feet in in soup or something I'll try it. I only saw chicken feet cooked Indian style, never had it the Chinese way. I think its those creepy looking claws. Its a visual turn off.

I'm one of those Asians that hate milk with a passion. I get diarrhea cha cha cha. No fun. I'll drink it if you force feed to me through a feeding tube with immodium AD as a back up in case things go wrong. With a toilet nearby as a last resort.

Yep. Good old down south cooking is the best. I miss it. But I'll never eat possums. My stepdad used to gawk and gag at the site of possum at the dinner table when my father went out hunting. Sometimes squirrel too. And deer.

(I tried deer that my uncle shot. Real wild taste to it. He made me bleed and gut the thing in his basement.)

I accidentally ate dog once. One of my filipino friends had a barbecue one time and tricked me into eating it thinking it was pork. I'm okay. I went to the doctor afterwards just to make sure I didnt get worms or something.

Maybe it was a joke but I'm still not sure. . . . .

Watching the end result of certain Asians drinking milk is enough to gross people of any background out. *ugh*When I was younger, I used to think that a lot of Asian people were lying to me about their milk problems because many of them eat ice cream (i.e., an excuse for something that doesn't taste so great but is nutritious and readily available). However, I later found out that lactase was added to commercial ice cream.

I've been told by some Asians that if they are naturally lactose intolerant, if they start regularly drinking a little milk and slowly expand the amount (and continue doing it or maintaining a level of consumption), that they won't have problems with the diarrhea. However, don't know the validity to that statement.

Actually, come to think of it, I've known Asian people who've seen me drink stuff like grapefruit and cranberry juices that also that it was weird and / or gross.

I heard that they put a live monkey in a metal box with a hole in it over a fire or something, and slowly cook it to death. Then as the monkey tries to stick it's head out the metal box, the guy, slices the cranium open and eat the brains right out of the skull. Something like that.

I also heard that people in certain countries like to burn the dog's hair off while it's still alive. Then they knock the dog dead in the head to kill it for food consumption.

The hormones that is released from the brain and other centers in it's endocrine system as the dog screams in pain suppossedly enhances the taste of the meat.

Then in Europe they have the cruel act of force feeding goose to make Foie gras as a delicacy in French Cuisine.

I do eat chicken feet, tripe and pig's ear occasionally

Apparently a lot of white folk can't take sushi or sashimi either, so maybe that counts as well.

Never tried dog nor cat, did try snake... wasn't too bad, but not something I'll have everyday, you know?

Well there's shark fin soup.

Congee and tea/century eggs

Fried squid tentacles at dim sum - I love the stuff!

Sushi and sashimi (most whites outside London can't stand it)

Seafood in general, especially eel. I'm really surprised about this, because I'd have thought Brits in general would like seafood, especially since they're an island nation...

Are the preserved duck eggs in congee black? If that's what it is, then I like that too. In poor cantonese pinyin/vernacular...the congee I order is called pay don suw yook jook. LOL.

I like the jellyfish from those dim sum places. I'm not as "Chinese" as some of you who eat those intestines and chicken/frog legs/feet. Nasty. lol.

I've eaten sea cucumber but I don't really like that either.
I also like shark fin. I've had cubes of pig's blood in congee, which I don't mind eating. I don't particularly like it nor hate it. I just eat it all up. lol.

In Japan there is a special dish called Fugu ( 河豚 , or フグ in Japanese) which is made from the meat of the poisonous pufferfish.

If the fish is prepared incorrectly, the poison can kill. The poison tetrodotoxin are contained in the liver, ovaries and the skin, if any of these parts is ingested the person will eventually die from paralysis and respiratory failure. There is no antidode for the disease as of yet.

Only specially lisenced chefs are permitted to cook the delicacy. A number of people die each year from incorrectly prepared Fugu.

Even in properly prepared dishes, there is some non lethal levels of the toxin in the meat that produces certain physiological effects on the nerves in the person consuming the product I've read. Tingling senations in the mouth for the most part. The sensations from the toxins can radiate to other parts of the body as well.

The Chinese hanzi characters (河豚) or the Japanese hiragana/katakana (フグ) for the puffer fish and the dish itself is the same. The hiragana/katakana/hanzi are used to define both the dish or the fish itself. I believe several varieties of the fish are used in the preparation of this delicacy, but my knowledge of it is limited.

I understand that this dish has been prepared by the Japanese for centuries. It's probably more about a long standing Japanese cultural tradition; the reason why the dish is relatively popular.

Actually when I was born the doctors told my mother that I was lactose intolerant but my mom was like bullshit and insistent that I drink milk since she grew up drinking a lot of it and so she gave it to me anyway and over time I think I just outgrew it. During my childhood and teen years I must've chugged at least half a gallon of milk a day, for better or worse. I've never been able to live without milk or dairy for as long as I can remember. I really had no idea all along that I had ever been intolerant to it until she told me.

Kangaroos are actually better then beef, not only in flavour but also in fat content. Trust me on that. (This is of course before I became a vegetarian).

People tend to be grossed out by the fact that I've eaten a rat (I was pretty wasted at the time - first job burn out).

But the thing that seems to gross out most people is when I open up a durian for the first time. I've done it in a hotel and the hotel manager thought he had a gas leak! (Not the first time I've done this).
