Sorry guys, I was away taking care of family medical situation.

I opened this back up for a specific reason.

Ladies and gentlemen, ChairmanMah has provided us with a textbook example of racism, in this particular case an Asian against mixed race Asians. Or maybe he just hates eurasians in particular. It happens.

I think the people in this forum are mature enough to differentiate intelligent and thought challenging conversation from whiny bullshit. It's a good example of racism towards (some) mixed Asians. It's real. It happens.

It's true that the Eurasian Beauty Myth (there's a thread titled that somewhere) is just that, a myth. I don't think we're any better or worse looking that anyone else just because of our racial composition.

He came to this forum thinking he could stir up more trouble about it by talking about eurasians having green skin or are ugly or weird or whatever but it's pretty obvious that he's re-wrapping the AF/WM thing again.

So far he's been pretty one-dimensional so I don't think his message will change.

Just because your parents are beautiful does not mean you will be and you can have ugly parents and be beautiful. Genetics are not so simple that you can predict beauty by the standard of the parents.

I guess I'm the only member of this site that sees a difference between top-against-bottom discrimination and bottom-against-top discrimination. Those in power (the tops) have the ability to give their discrimination a social force and currecy that those not in power don't. Therefore, I believe that we need a word to distinguish the discrimination wielded by the powerful from the kind held by the less powerful, whose discrimination is largely a reaction to the first. And for me, that word is racism.

I do not agree with any of what Chairman Mah has said. It's pretty clear that the Chairman's churlish remarks are merely another way for him to bash WM/AF. Why does he bash WM/AF? I believe it's largely because American society — and especially the media — have not done enough to acknowledge Asian male heterosexuality as a positive thing on par with white male heterosexuality. Indeed, the media has done much to put down Asian men through such figures as 16 Candles' Long Duk Dong — all the while depicting attractive Asian women lusting after white men. In my opinion, that is where the racism is. And Chairman Mah's ignorant comments are merely a reaction to this socially sanctioned racial disparity.

If Chaiman Mah or you want to discuss Asiaphiles, Asiaphilia, and the exotification of Asian women, fine, although I'd appreciate him using more mature language than "Asiaphiles take the ugly Asian chicks" and "Beautiful AFs that marry ugly WMs will get ugly kids" - to me, those comments indicate less of a concern for the AF's welfare and the perception of the AF and more of a paranoia over "they're gonna take our women!" or, more accurately, "they're gonna take our hot women!". Your own comments about the perception of AMs in Western media are accurate, although not related to the previous discussion, but CM didn't bring those up and so I can only assume he didn't consider them.

But CM's comments were about more than WM/AF relationships; they were about the children of White-Asian couples. So they're more than 'merely a reaction' to the anti-AM Western media. And they are racist, because they lump an entire group of people into one category: the ugly children of people with messed up racial identities. God for-fucking-bid we populate the world with more of them.

Shuriken, I don't think that the term "racism" on its own implies the prejudice harbored by the powerful race against the oppressed minority. Racism is the term we give to any kind of prejudice, discrimination and abuse that targets racial characteristics regardless of the racial and class origin of who is harboring the attitude in question. You can make distinctions by saying that there is establishment racism and reverse racism, but that seems more like descriptive and elaboration than the actual core concept. In the end, racism is a manifestation of the base, irrational aspects of our human nature. Putting a less harsh term depending on who's spouting the hate is just excusing away deplorable behavior.

Shuriken I am quite curious what has other gay asian have thought about it. There have been some other shows that have type cast Asian males in a postive way. Western Media have always been play off that typecast because it works but that is quickly changing. Media have been known to be a decade behind normal society. So far the only postive male protrayal is Startrek Vogayer Garrent Wang.

Chairman Mah, when you post in the Hapa forum, be prepared to get an answer from Hapas. Your initial post is full of stereotypes and misperceptions. Tacking the words 'There are some exceptions though' does nothing to disspell that.
