AEM's Engine Management System (EMS)
God's Gift To Tuning for DSMs. Best thing since turbos and AWD, really. This is a complete replacement ECU. A full standalone ECU that saves you a week of wiring hassle and a week of tuning set up. It is plug and play, which means you plug it in and start playing with it. It has start up base maps that get you going but you will need access to a wide band O2 sensor (buy one or build one) for tuning. Some dyno time would be a good idea too. You will need to put in some time for idle set up. Ignition maps are great to start with. Fuel tuning to 95% capability can be done in a good 2-3 hour drive late at night. AEM is providing a level of tech support for this system previously unheard of and unimaginable for such a product. This makes a stand alone ECU finally cost effective for the average guy (for better and for worse:)
Go to AEM's web site and read everything about it if you are considering one. Go to their message board and read all the info there too. Then go to Autronic's web site, Motec's web site and Haltech's web site. See the difference, compare the features. There isn't really anything you cant do with the EMS that will cost you twice the price or more with the competing systems. Then factor in the support. If you read and comprehend all the info on the AEM web site, you will be sold. If the info there is over your head, then stick to the Apex AFC or the HKS VPC. There should be no questions. If you have to ask why you need it or if you should get the EMS vs. some other system, you didn't understand it and it isn't for you. If you like it, start finding a buyer for your alphabet soup of add-on electronic gadgets that it will replace. Sell them all and your stock ECU and the EMS is over 1/2 paid for.
Only a few of the many features are:
Full 3D mapping of fuel, ignition, idle, O2 sensor feedback, and knock control. Internal or lap top datalogging included. It has a dash feature that you program. Control additional injectors, sprayers, solenoids, NOS, antilag, boost by vehicle speed, auto tune with a wide band O2 sensor, individual cylinder trims, EGT inputs, two step rev limiter, washes your socks and has AutoSuck. It includes base programs for MAS and MAP sensors. It works fine with 1G CAS with no OBD-2 issues for 6 bolt motor swap guys. Currently available and in stock for the 90-99 Eclipse Turbo cars. It is NOT for the 2G NT cars.
Now this would replace my piggyback EMS, my boost controller, my EGT gauge [not to mention temperature probe, d'oh!], ignition controller, cup holder, side mirrors, gas pedal, brake pedal, you name it. lol
Now the price through Road Race Engineering:

Ask a 1,000 stupid questions, you want it because you can make "Manifold Danger" on the dash feature, ask if it comes in colors, will it turn on the under car neon lights... $3000
Ask a lot of good questions, ask if it is better than a DSM Link, don't read the AEM message board, don't down load the trial software. $1850
Smart guy, deep tuning knowledge, give useful feed back, been there, done that, tired of being limited by piggyback boxes, you are on a genuine knowledge quest and live for tweaking on your car. $1475
