What are your general thoughts about Asian nights? Like it? Dislike? Don't care as long as it's full of hot asian chicks and you can dance your ass off? Should it be cancelled due to too much controversy ... e.g. seperatist/racist events and fights etc...?

I live in Melbourne, Australia where Asian nights are pretty frequent...being 27 and well over my peak clubbing days, I'd have to say, I don't mind Asian nights but then again, as I'm not much of a clubber to start off with...it's aite.

why so? where i live...there has been loads of trouble and associated gang violence, especially amongst the viet community.

i find this fodder for pure racism, back in 02/03, there were white aussie owners wanting to ban asian nights and also say that they would not welcome asian/vietnamese community. funnily enough, he stressed asian men....i wonder if he would welcome asian women???

anyhoo, asian nights are still valid down here...why the hell not? there are greek, serbian etc nights. the whole point of asian nights is to cater for the asian club scene AND because most would have faced rejection at other clubs.

Good promoters, good crowd, why not? It depends though, I only go for for ones in higher class venues or promoters, so nothing not 21+ because that's asking for problems. It's mostly a professional crowd to the places I go or college students. Clubs tends to welcome Asian nights, and of course there are Asian clubs too.

^ Asian clubs as in specifically owned and run by Asians catering for a mainly Asian crowd (obviously non-Asians are also welcome...)?

Im not really into this whole club thing, so I'm so out...but I realise there are a few eatery/bar joints like this. Golden Monkey, Cho Go...etc.

Asian night held every now and then at a club always seemed frivolous and pointless to me. If I wanted to hang out with all Asians, I'd go to something like a Korean bar/club, Chinese bar/club or a Japanese sake bar where it's Asian night every night.

I for the most part prefer dive bars.

In my case I wouldn't have bothered to try to get in. I've never been considered Asian enough, which is probably more fact than judgment.

I never liked them. No room to dance, etc etc. I usually go in groups when I head out at nite, and the girls want cockblocks set up, blah blah blah. Eh. I never had fun at an Asian night.

I miss the 'ghettoness' of Asian Night. I miss all the fightings, the wannabe tough-guys, the blonde asian chics that want to kick the crap out of daddy-girls I miss all the cussing in various languages -- 'Du-ma, diu,...'

Now it's all too yuppified. The conversation is like 'I am so-and-so of this firm.. I just got a beemer, lexus, blah blah blah... I just bought my Midtown townhome, and now rent out my bungalow in the Heights distric.'

What is sad is that I'm one of those yuppies and sometimes I caught myself talking about the same crap they do at Asian night. The whole scene to me is so materialistic. May be I go to the wrong club or something. Perhaps I should go to less high-end places.

Like the doc, I prefer dive bar where the beer is cheaper and the women there never ever cockblock. And if I want to hang with Asain, heck yeah I go to Korean/Japanese bar or Karaoke club.

I avoid the Asian nights that is not the same crowd (very discernible by promoter) that goes to K-bars, which is really the same crowd among 20-somethings in LA as far as I know, or maybe I'm just kinda ghetto like that. Not too many yuppies and no gangsters (so out of that phase of my life).

I avoid a lot of like Asian networking events unless I really have to because it's filled with dull and bitter people. No more places where I feel like I'm gonna get shot either. There's no excuse for doing that after you turn 21.

All too common, all too familiar. Bit off topic, an Asian acquaintence once took me to this wine club in an asian bar where it was full of asian yuppies..yapping away about stocks, property boom and their latest addition to their lexus/bmw collection.

highly superficial and for once i felt too uncomfortable amongst my own kind....but prolly due to the fact we were in a diff social eco background. everyone was in office gear which was sorta freaky!

NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. I just wouldn't be buggin' ya about crashing at your place the next time I'm in your neck of the woods. LOL.

Otherwise, dude, drop the word for your YW bros next time it's happy hour at CD's place!

I've never been to an "Asian/Azn" night. I don't really care for them. It's nice to be around people relatively within the same cultural background, but I'm from St. Louis where Asians are few and far between anyway. I point Asian people out all the time just for shitz and giggles because we're such a minority there. Same in Miami where I am now.

love 'em.
usually gotta differentiate between

- Fob/Ghettoish Asian Parties. Sometimes 18+
- Normal College APA parties. Always 21+
- Young Professional/Grad school asian parties.

I <3 the latter two.

Depends on who operates it.
Some are great but others, well, can turn rather ugly.
These days, I don't see much point to it.
All it does is just make it easier for white guys to pick up Asian chicks.

It doesn't exist here, at least not to my understanding anyway. The Asians who are born and bred in this country tend to assimilate very easily and hence hang out with the dominant white crowd.

Used to be popular here until the whole Salt thing (google: Salt night club Melbourne). It's been picking up again the last few years though.
Mainly Korean nights, but like I said, it's just a poor excuse for white guys to pick up Asian chicks.

Thats prolly due to the fact the UK has such a small Asian (Oriental) population that its financially unworthy to create such parties.

A bit off track but an ex gf of mine once did a 2 yr working visa thing to the UK. She was Vietnamese and went with 1 mate...she returned after 1 yr bitching that there was so few things Asian there she just couldnt stand it...

Ironically she did come back with a Vietnamese boyfriend...

For someone who lives in London, you're not looking hard enough. I use to study in London and went to quite a few Asian nights. Heck, I even worked with one of the party organisers.

You're right though, there is a ethnic minority and at times there aren't many people there. To be honest, I don't see the point in them - girls are so artificial and guys are there just to show off how big their cocks are....

I'm keen to check out with the Asian night over in the State. My friend says it's completely different and that the English accent will work like a charm.

You'd have the "he's a tourist/out of town" and "british accent" going for you.

Not quite what one could call sporting.

I get stupid around asian womens with british accents.

You've got a point, in Sydney at least. (Where Asian nights are still a bit thing).

In Melbourne though, really. There's no point. If you've stayed here long enough, it's better hit a pub or a gym if you're out pick up. You'll have better luck (personal experience).

Also, about the WWII reference, the yanks were late to come into the war. In fact, if it was for a few little things that happened along the way, the war would've had a very different outcome.

That's not to play down the US' role: without the US, we're screwed. However, Robin Hood is nothing without his Merry Men.

Yeah. The Soviets also played a CRITICAL role in the outcome of the war too.

Anyway, I used to go to Filipino clubs alot, ( some of them closed down since then ) where there are also alot of Viets who go there to hang out. Man, every night was practically an 'Asian Night'.

I have'nt went clubbing in awhile. I do chill at the bars w/friends alot. ( even then it's been ahwhile since I'm constantly studying in the summer classes I'm taking. This damn microbiology class especially, it's kicking my ass )

Hmmm ironically I never use to drink all that much in uni, probably I was never really fortunate enough to land a proper job back then so I could never really afford anything.

University was never cheap thrills and drinks, it was more, at home doing crap and then cramming.....

My Chemistry professor works part time as a bartender .... but I think she does that so she can sociaize since she is a loner type of lady. Rather than just for the money ... Good woman though. I' need check her out at her bar. If not with some friends or myself, whatever.

Mate, I thought I had a lot of catching up to do. I drank, not as much as I should've though. I hate to say it but fact is, the drinking aspect of uni is very important to your success. Just make sure it's not over done.

Point is, too much work and no play makes a dull boy.
