Well i've decided to grow my hair out and this process has been going on for about 4 months now. Currently my bangs are slightly touching the top of my eye lid and the sides are halfway down to my ear.
I'm just asking any males out there how long did it take you to grow out your hair so that it passes your ear lobe?
Also, should I give up this endeavour and go back to my short finger-length hair cut that I've had ever since kindergarden?
I just wanted a change to see what it would look like to have really long hair and then put some crazy highlights in it.... Are my dreams too asian and will it only turn out bad in the end?
I need help!
Thanks

i havent had long hair since grade 6, when I was able to wrap it behind my ears. Nowadays I'm a lot fatter and sigh, nerdier.
Anyway, I'm by no means uptodate on looks or whatever, but I think you need a very lean face with nice cheek bones to pull it off. If your face is a little chubby, as many asians tend to be, then you're less likely to succeed. thats my onion anyway.

It took me about 8 months. But then again I started from a near bald haircut and I have really wavy/curly hair, so I'm sure it looked shorter than it actually was...
...so...yeah...

That's actually the reason why I have stuck with medium length/longish hair and bangs for the longest time. I shaved my head for about a year or so because I saw all the other Asian guys do it and it just made my face look even sharper and narrower so I looked like some freakish psychotic alien.

I naturally have soft, curly hair that is reasonably easy to work with.
In JHS during the early 90's I used to sport a spiked haircut with lines and all these funky arrows and s--t like Vanilla Ice. LOL. Stop laughing guys. I'm serious. I had to use LOTS of gel, shitloads of it, to get the spiked hair effect. I hated it when it rained outside with all the gel on my head. Not cool.
When I was older in HS I literally sported my hair as a fro and let my curls flow naturally. If I would stretch out one of my curls it would be rather long in length, like 5-6 inches or so? I used only afro combs to work out the hair the way I wanted it.
Now in college a number 3 clipper on the sides and back and a scissor cut on top for a combing of hair to the front works for me best for a more conservative style. No more fros and afro combs. That went with Wu Tang Clan and Method man. That style's dead.
I look like a egghead with a buzz cut. Tried it once. I had to hide myself in my room for a week, it looked so damn stupid. I even caught myself laughing at myself in the mirror I looked so ridiculously stupid with it, let alone my friends laughing at me for the way it looked and slapping me in the head for kicks. Assholes.
I think the girls liked the curly afro better, but I don't particularly like it. Maybe I should reconsider how I should cut my hair. . . . .
Let me get on topic: I LOVE girls with long dark straight hair. Straight long hair. K. I'm done.

It takes about 2 months for my hair to get to the bottom of my neck. Blasian hair

I tried that too. I gave up after trying to make that work and went for the 'fro. Easier to deal with and people loved it like that. Ahhhh, back in the days. . . .

It took me over a year, but I had hair down to my armpits. I cut it because too many dudes mistook me for a chick.

^HaHaHaHaHa !!!! Some of these guys really dont have a clue. Stupid. How could they mistake you for a chick ? I wonder what you said in retaliation. . . . .

I guess I should'nt have asked Thaite. You probably did some wicked shit (rightfully so) to the guys who screwed up your sexual identity when you had long hair. Things that cannot be repeated in words in this forum. My bad. LOL.

wow, back of your neck in two months? thats freaking crazy! o_O
I'm starting to lose hope ;_; because it looks so bad!! T_T I mean my vision was that my hair would be long and straight.... but i guess the asian gene is making my hair all "fro"-y... I hope you guys know what i'm talking about... like getting out of the shower and your head is like a gigantic poof ball.
Would hair extensions be a bad idea :?

Would hair extensions be a bad idea :?
F-ck no. But I sometimes thought about dying my hair a crazy color like blue or silver , at the tips. I saw a Chinese dude with it with spiked hair in the subway the other night with blue color at the tips of the spikes, that sh-t was so cool ! I might go to skool sporting that look myself.
Look. I can't grow long hair and make it look good. Unless i braid it or get corn curls. With my blasian ass hair forget it. I'll end up lookin like an ass like Lionel Richie back in the 80's.
F--k that. I aint down with the Jerry curls with the juice in the curls that is flammable enough to start coals on a f--king barbacue grill. Crazy? I don't want a Michael Jackson burn incident.(His stupid ass got his hair caught on fire during a stage performance, 4 those who don't know)
OK. My hair is not that curly and my hair ids soft and workable into a varirty of styles I can go for black or Asian look either way depending on how the f--k I get out of bed, and if I am on a hanhover or not.
I can keep it straight with gel. Or let it blow out like a ill fro. But still. No Jerry curls, or buzz cuts.
Damn. Don't only WOMEN talk about this s--t on hair. This is pathetic. Who the fuck started this post. i'm too drunk to remember.

go for it. i'm all for growing out your hair and experimenting with it while you're young! you might get old and lose it one day...like me :frown:
i used to have a style when i was really young where it was all very short spikes, except for two long sets of blue bangs in the front. i was so punk and hip.
later in life, i had long curly spikes with velvet blond highlights.
at one point, i even rocked the bart simpson hair.
alas, those days are gone....... and i face the future with a deep sigh...

^ As the resident apologist I'd have to say...non-Asian people dye their hair all the time (I think I have yet to meet a white girl that hasn't), but it's just a lot more noticeable with Asian people because a lot of times the hair is already jet black, and basically you can only go toward a lighter shade.

Asian dudes who know how to dress right with phat gears and dye their hair or wear highlights even highlights like blue or even sliver (depends) looks really cool, hands down. Very trendy if they are chilling out in a very casual setting like the bar at school or going to the club or something.
Of course the very sensible Asian dude would'nt dye his hair with highlights, etc. if he was to dress formally in a suit or something for a formal engagement. That would not be very fitting for a professional or some other formal setting. He's better off keeping it jet black. More appropriate.
My only gripe is the emos ond headbangers who likes to dye their hair in these crazy ass neon bright colors like hot pink or neon green and stuff. I thought only clowns wear colors like that.
Now let me say this off topic: I think Asian girls or (any girl for that matter with straight long black hair) with red, brown or blond highlights are hot. It really looks cool when they do their hair like that. Very sexy.
I also observed that Asian ladies can wear highlights in their hair and it would be acceptable in any setting.

No, no, no !! Don't start changing the avatar to a dude with black hair to prove your point. I like your avatar. He has dyed hair. We all like it.

the avatar carries a different meaning.
its gray hair that symbolizes the difference between eastern and western perception of aging
on and its the character i use in that game
while im not completely indifferent about my own looks, its a state of mind i would like to one day achieve
i've said it before and ill say it again, the dudes that like black hair and girl who dress respectably dont get alot of attention becuase they don't tell anyone. im saying it now, there are more of these guys than you think. you just dont hear them
