there's no debating norm's brilliance, but no team is gonna keep the guy if his stuff doesn't translate into wins. there's also talk about pete carroll leaving the trojans for the falcons, which is stupid. don't rule out a chow-carroll reunion in the near future. although they supposedly hate each other's guts, i'm sure they'd put all that aside to get Ws.

Maybe he and Vince Young don't get along?
I mean they made the playoffs, didn't they?

I know that Vince Young didn't make the leap he was expected to this season, and in fact, regressed. But, its still surprising that Chow got fired.
Now, that Jones has stepped down at Hawaii, this is probably Chow's best and last chance to get a HC in college. The longer Chow waits for the perfect opportunity, the less likely he'll get it. Chow is kinda old already and is only getting older, and so its only going to get harder to get a HC job with each passing year.
Stanford, BYU, and Hawaii are the three schools where he should have had an inside track, but it didn't work out at Stanford and BYU, so we'll see how it works out with Hawaii.
At Hawaii, the boosters issue would probably not be that big of a deal as other schools. Haole outsiders would probably have a harder time with boosters than a native like Chow. And, it won't be as competitive in terms of recruiting since Hawaii isn't competing for the same playmakers as the bigtime programs.
If Hawaii ends up promoting the DC McMackin, then Hawaii is

whatever his head coaching or recruiting abilities, the guy knows how to develop young quarterbacks.

That was a surprise to me also. VY had no weapons this year. No viable WRs to bail him out. Plus he had nagging injuries thru out the season. I think Jeff Fisher and the Titans management just want to find a scapegoat for their abysmal offense.

Does Chow want to go back to coach college football? I would love to see Chow with the Cowboys as a coordinator but now that Jason Garrett has decided to stay put and wait out for the headcoaching job, Wade Phillips' job. It looks like he will end up somewhere else.

I also think Chow raised expectations too high this year cause of how well he did last year. Young may have singlehandlely won that college NC game, but from his throwing motion to his lack of experience reading defenses, I don't think people expected Young to do as well as he did last year- he ended up being rookie of the year despite not starting some of those early games.
I think a lot of people made the assumpiton that if Young did that good last year, he was going to make an even bigger leap in progress this year. And, when Young actually regressed...

If Chow stays in the NFL for a few more years, he'd get an NFL pension.
But, by that point, he'd be too old to be considered for another HC job.
And, if he doesn't get the Hawaii job, would he consider going back to college football as an OC? The UCLA coach has publicly announced he'd love to hire Chow and UCLA has held off hiring a OC until it can talk to Chow, but would Chow be willing to come to UCLA as an OC when he had been interviewing to be the HC? Otherwise, UCLA would be perfect- Chow still has a home in LA and he would love to avenge getting shoved out by Pete Carroll.
That'd be awesome of Chow became a Bruin.

Originally, I didn't think UCLA was going to pull out the money to hire Chow at 1M a year for the OC. To be honest, a lot of times UCLA has hired a coach cause he was cheap. With Rick Neuhiesel, UCLA got an bargain deal at 1.25M/year when the avg salary for a coach in one of the BCS conferences is 1.5M. That's how badly Neuheisel wanted to coach UCLA, who always viewed UCLA as his dream job.
But, since the Titans fired Chow with 2 years left on his contract, the Titans will pay him 1M each year for two years or make up any salary difference so he still gets 1M. In other words, if Chow doesn't get a job, Titans will have to pay him 1M. And, if Chow gets a job but one that pays him less than 1M, the Titans will make up the difference so he still gets his 1M.
So, UCLA could give Chow a multiyear deal that his backloaded after the second year. This way, Chow would still get his money and UCLA could save some money.
Unfortunately for UCLA, the Rams are also interested in Chow as their OC and are interviewing him. But, part of Chow's legend has been his ability to groom young QBs, so I don't know if it makes sense for the Rams to choose Chow when they already have an older, established QB. When the Titans picked up Chow, they knew they were going to bring in a raw QB rookie pretty soon.

Chow joined UCLA coaching staff. Consider Ben Olson a lucky QB.

Ben Olson, if he proves to be any good, just improved his draft stock from 7th round to 2nd or 3rd in one season under Chow.

Ben Olson was a five star recruit, considered the best QB prospect in the country and one of the top recruits overall that year. At one point, he was being compared to John Elway. But, he's been shackled in a West Coast Offense under Dorrell that doesn't best utilitize his skills or talents. Its gotten so bad for Olson that a lot of fans wanted Cowan to start over Olson even though Cowan has nowhere near the same potential or talent.
Olson kind of reminds me of Carson Palmer, another highly touted recruit who had all the physical tools, but up to that point, never lived up to the hype and who was considered a disappointment in college. But, finally in his senior season, after struggling the previous year in Chow's system, Palmer finally lived up to his potential- setting USC single season records, winning the Heisman, and becoming the number one pick in the NFL Draft.
Its too bad for UCLA that this didn't happen earlier cause then UCLA probably would have had a really strong shot at Ryan Mallet, the Michigan QB who transferred when RRod replaced Lloyd Carr.
The scuttlebutt is that Young clashed w/ Chow and that Chow is the first of likely a no. of OC's that Young will have had fired.

Olson, if he's lucky, will benefit like Kyle Boller did. He was the #1 QB recruit in the country his year (or close to it) and floundered for 3 years under the previous coach. One year under Jeff Tedford and he was a 1st round pick. He's done nothing in the NFL though, but he's still in the league somehow.
