With the demise of A. Magazine comes the demise of the Ammy Awards, those curious knicknacks designed to recognize that the recipient has at least a little Asian blood. Since the folks at A can't hand out the awards this year, I thought I'd do it for them. Ready? Here goes...
Best Film: Signs, directed by M. Night Shyamalan
Best Actor in a Film: The Rock in The Scorpion King
Best Actress in a Film: Shannon Sossamon in The Rules of Attraction
Best Actor in a Television Series: Tommy Chong in That '70s Show
Best Actress in a Television Series: Kristin Kreuk in Smallville
There...don't you feel so much better about Asian Americans in the media now?

:) Shannon Sossamon was also in 40 Days and 40 Nights, alongside Josh Harnett. She's really pretty.
Notice all of the actors and actresses are hapa?

Yeah, that's my point: How many non-Asians out there even know that these people are Asian? I've always faulted the Ammys for awarding films and performances just because their creators had at least one drop of Asian blood in them — rather than for furthering understanding of Asian people. At the risk of sounding like a conservative: Awards should be given for accomplishment, not just for ethnic background. (So, support MANAA's Media Achievement Awards instead...haha!)
I also misspelled Shannyn Sossamon's name. :P

i don't know if the rock could act his way out of....... *couldn't think of a witty way to end this sentence*
if he is our best actor, we are all doomed.
Ahhh...so the awards are only for American movies/tv...
The Rock is Asian?
O.K. ehhhh....Keanu Reeves for Hardball....
There's gotta be at least one Asian person on Star Trek.
Wow this is hard...can't think of any Asians/hapas in entertainment!

The Rock is half Samoan and Half Black. He used to go by the name Rocky Maivia and his real name is Dwayne Johnson.
Harry Kim is played by Garret Wang
Star Trek Enterprise has the Language Specialist, Hoshi, who is played by a Korean-American actress.
For Best Actor I'd go with Rick Yune still.. His role was very well done for what it was supposed to do.
