you should! it's not difficult to find, where you live, is it? here in CA, when it first became popular a few yrs ago, it used to only be sold at farmers markets and festivals. so i'd only be able to get it once a week at the farmers market, and seriously, that was basically ALL i ate that day. *shovel shovel shovel*...till nausea overcame me.

It was my leftover dinner from an Italian restaurant in Pasadena.
The pesto wasn't even enough or creamy.
The broccoli was bleh.

AND, they forgot my additional topping of chicken.
So I had to wait and wait and wait...

ooh near Mitsuwa?
Yup...that one.
how is the ramen there?
It's pretty good, but I don't like the style that much -- apparently, Tokushima-style ramen is a little bit sweeter and a softer than "standard" ramen. I prefer the soup to be a bit more salty and the noodles to lean toward al-dente-ness. Although...I also really like freeze-dried, mass-produced ramen, which the king of nostalgic comfort foods for me.
what kind did you get?
I got their standard ramen with their version of chashu pork...except their pork, instead of thickish slices of roast pork, are more like marinated shavings that are reminiscent of bacon. Not bad, but I prefer the thick-cut slices.

Right nearby (just a couple blocks away, closer to Stevens Creek) is Halu Ramen, which I prefer: super-rich (probably a bit too salty and definitely too oily/fatty) broth and awesome noodles. They have thick and thin noodles and both have a nice, solid mouth-feel to them.

But they're kooky over at Halu. They're like the fucking Ramen Nazis, open for lunch only from 11:30 - 1:30. Don't even think of dropping by there at 1:35 -- the door'll be closed. And they close on, like, Wednesday, of all days, and don't serve lunch on Thursday or something. Basically, they do whatever the hell they want and you meekly obey because their noodles are that. fucking. good.

P.S. Of course, that's my preference. I've heard a couple people say they prefer Tokushima over Halu. Of course, I think they're insane, but...

P.P.S. Incidentally, the bar right by Tokushima -- The Redi Room -- is a pretty cool little spot. Kind of a neighborhood dive vibe, but not actually divey in the sense of sanitation and all that. Pool tables, darts, and other diversions...an all-around, chill and old-school package.

i just had Costco pizza and berry sundae. so full.Lunch at Costco always brings up the dilemma: dog or pizza? Sometimes I go crazy and get both.

I just walked over to the Metreon and tried out that Luna Azul place...a carne asada burrito that was just fine, but nothing special. An annoyance: they don't allow free refills on soda.

Do you dilute it with water to make it less "pasty" and more "soupy?"

I've seen people dump it directly on rice and stuff as a condiment, but never eaten directly...then again ghetto heads used to suck on ketchup bottles...hell, I'm game! I'll give you karma for being "hardcore!"

Haha! It's not really hardcore. At least I don't think so. People who have had it wouldn't think so either... It's not diluted, it is pasty, not soupy. Basically it is like... ground up sesame seeds, into a powder-ish form, and mixed with sugar water, boiled until pasty. Kind of like when you mix sand or some kind of powder with water or some kind of liquid... Arg... that doesn't sound too appetizing, but it's good!

Yep. 5th and Howard. Kitty-corner from the Shoe Pavilion.

It's a pretty decent place. Kind of a divey feel without it being a true dive. Mix of neighborhood regulars, it seems, as well as people just dropping in from nearby hotels or whatever. The odd thing about the place is that they usually have pop or hip-hop coming in over the speakers, which doesn't really jibe with the place. Someone needs to tell them to be a good, stereotypical pub and play the Pogues or the like.
