I'm currently doing a bit of research on the Hmong and Cambodian-American communities. Does anyone know of any good resources for this? Honestly, all I have right now is The Spirit Catches You...

the Wikipedia article on Hmong Americans has several good sources:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hmong_American

but the one for Cambodian Americans is severely lacking in sources:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambodian_American

i don't recommend trusting Wikipedia articles unless the claims that they make are backed up by the provided sources.

for demographic information, the US census website is your friend. but i always hate trying to navigate to the exact tables and reports i'm looking for.

Hmong Studies (http://www.hmongstudies.org/) may work. You'd probably get some good returns if you google with "+ Minnesota" in your search string. That way you could get a varying level of resources from state to student groups.

When the infamous bumper stickers were first reported I had been trying to find reliable human resources to confirm or deny their existence and sales.

Adding one more link to U Minn Hmong Cultural Center (http://www.hmongcenter.org/). But I want to put in the caveat that although I'm posting links I don't want to treat them like objects to be studied. I'm not Hmong and don't really have any reliable advice on how to proceed or what is deemed to be accurate info.

Having said that, good luck. Hope someone more knowledgeable than myself can guide you better.

Hey, thanks to both. And sorry, I should maybe have clarified -- basically, I'm just looking for history on the communities to put onto a larger timeline about Asian-American history. So basically I'm looking for major events, similar to the Chinese Exclusion Act for CAs, internment for JAs, etc.

go through the major events in wartime Southeast Asia in the 60s and 70s to see if the US started allowing Hmong and Khmer refugees to settle in the US during that time. although i'm pretty sure resettlement in large numbers occured after the US pulled out of Vietnam and the rest of Southeast Asia. and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think most Hmong refugees that are in the US right now came from refugee camps in Thailand.
