Ideally, if I say "Tokyuu Hands" you'll say, yes, by Jove! I know just the place you need.
I've been perusing The Container Store but I'd like other options. Should you have a favored purveyor of organization thingies, please share. Safely assume there is a moderate degree of Japanesey OCD anal retentiveness where I kinda sorta want everything in a container and labeled but we're also going for voluntary simplicity.
I need to downsize the crap we have. Baby things taking over everywhere plus he runs EVERYWHERE and gets into EVERYTHING.

I really love the Container Store, but usually I just grab organizational stuff from Target because it's more convenient.
For nice looking bins and boxes and various containers, Crate and Barrel has good stuff and they are not ridiculously expensive. I love ogling their kitchen storage, in particular.
There's a Container Store-esque shop called "Organized Living." They have a website too.

Mein Gott. My kingdom for a freaking terracotta sink sponge holder. Any google experts out there able to link me to one I can buy? I think I've tried every store out there and every search string imaginable.

I wish I had a real home and not a room in an apt where most of my furniture is a bunch of boxes/bookshelfs precariously propping up a TV.

I do need some shoe organizer though. They're in one big pile in the corner of my room.

you gotta be careful of those ones that hang off a door. we have one, and once we put all our shoes in it, it really weighs down the thing and bends the metal that hooks onto the door. i've put duct tape on the hooks to make sure it doesn't fall. but i guess that's something you gotta watch out for with any of those vertical shoe containers that hang off something. it's got to hold the weight of all your shoes.

Actually, this (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=13621-77268-851900&lpage=none) is what I use (along with the cloth hanging one)
Alright, I need to stop posting before I lose my man card.

we have one that hangs off the inside of the closet door and it holds 30 pairs of shoes. at any given time there're probably around 25 pairs of shoes in it, which is probably why it bended the hooks. (and yes, most of the shoes belong to the girlfriend. i have all of three pairs of shoes: work, running, and casual. oh and i have a pair of sandals.)

I had one to hang my bathrobe on, and that was the only thing, and still it damaged the door of a place I was renting before. I think it damaged the top of the dorm frame too.

That's the very reason to get crazy with the organization. From Container Store I got book shelves that affix to the wall. You could put all your books at shoulder height.
Hmm. Maybe I can post a pic of the kitchen and have an online makeover.
