that i haven't tried until recently:

banhbeo is so good. the texture kinda reminds me of a mix between acorn jelly (served in korean restaurants) and chinese ho fun. it tastes like chinese ho fun. but it's so good in the tiny servings with green onion, dried garlic & nuc mum!

then there's also 7 course beef. there are restaurants here in los angeles (s.g.v. that specialize in this). it's fun bc you get to make the wraps yourself, which can also be difficult to do. i felt pretty out of place my first time. but the food is good.
any other recommendations?

going to vietnam next month. can't wait.
i did have some bun sow before which is like a shrimp/pork omellete with bean sprouts etc in a lettuce wrap that you dip in nuc mam.
it's not bad but it has coconut milk in it and i'm not that fond of coconut.
they love their coconut over there.
i am anxiously awaiting to try the fresh local seafood.

Snow Ninja I can't believe you did not mention the 24-hour Pho places on Kingsway. (Along with Pho Bich Nga )

 glad i didn't eat there. there are so many places i am scared to try. some vietname gambling dens and such.
i stick to what i know is quite safe and consistent.
I know a girl, her parents own Pho Tam on 102nd. It is the best broth i had anywhere. and always the same. hot tasty and fresh.
i like the fried rolls at Pho Hoa 104th better tho.

Those Vietnamese sandwiches are pretty nice. Cheap too. Great for a snack.
Crystal Mall in Burnaby has a pretty good Vietnamese place in the food court. Their lemongrass chicken and pork with vermicelli is superb, while the spring rolls and sandwiches aren't too bad either. The owner knows some Cantonese for some reason. (but not completely... and her kids speak English yeah)

yeah, the viet subs are great. crunchy carrot/daikon and tasty with the cilantro & jalapeno.
it is some kind of mystery meat in there but it's good.
$2.25-2.50 for a sub. it is a cheap decent sandwich. half price of subway.
i drove by crystal mall any times but never went inside. i should check it out one day.
(it is not uncommon for vietnamese to know some chinese i've met a few)

Crystal mall: Good food court, crap everything else haha, there is really nothing to do there but eat. Several good restaurants serving a variety of Asian cuisine. (Chinese, Japanese, Viet, etc) Really really bad parking lot. (ie, park at the Library or at Save-On-Foods, trust me the Crystal parking lot is BAAAAD)
